Mr. Heim is critical of those writers
on art or interior design who say a
painting must be matched with the
furniture or the other way around.
"A painting is a piece of artwork
which expresses a feeling of the artist
or represents nature and as far as the
artist is concerned, is in a framework
separate from the rest of the run. There-
fore it should not relate to the furniture,
only to the personality of the room. It's
like wearing clothing expresses person-
ality. I like to wear sloppy clothing
because I like to be free."
He says many people who pretend to
"know" art don't know what they're
talking about. They talk about the
shades and hues but to really know art
you have to be an artist. Anyone can
appreciate art, but only an artist can
see the actual skill that's involved in
doing a line, in creating power with
certain forms. Only an artist can
know why it's correct or incorrect bec-
ause he knows the fundamentals of
design, he knows the fundamentals of
