they would provide space for the project
thus saving them the cost of rent, but
found little interest at the time. Now,
he feels, since people have had a chance
to see the kind of work being done (the
paintings have had two public displays)
the reaction would be much more favou-
rab le.
The only logical sponsor for a future
project of this type, he says would be
a municipality or a service club that
already has space available and would
say "here, use this corner and go to it".
Mr. Marlatt says this project gets
down to the nitty gritty of cultural in-
volvement at the community level.
It's sort of culture far removed from the
upper plains of culture that the Canada
council supports. "They sort of fly at
a pretty high level" he says. "I don't
agree with this level as far as the aver-
age person is involved."
