Long-time Lucknow resident dies at 94
EVERYONE WELCOME
Lorna DonaIda Campbell
Lorna Donalda Campbell, formerly of
Lucknow, died at the Brucelea Haven Nur-
sing Home in Walkerton on November 28,
1986. She was 94.
Born in Crystal City, Manitoba on
September 10, 1892, she was the daughter
of the late Donald Campbell and the late
Nancy Louise Treleavan.
As an infant, Lorna came to Lucknow
with her parents in 1892, where he father
opened up a grocery and restaurant
business. Her father passed away on New
Year's Day 1896 at the age of 40. Mrs.
Campbell carried on the business until it
was .destroyed by fire in October of 1905.
The whole business block was destroyed at°
the time with Lorna and her mother just
escaping with their lives. This block was
replaced with the preSent Beaver Block.
Lorna later attended Shaw's :usiness
College, returning to Lucknow in 1920 as
the first woman employee of the Molson's
Bank. etfring from the bank in 1930 to
assist her mother in a restaurant business.
The business was sold in 1933 and Lorna
and her mother moved to Toronto, where
Lorna accepted a position as a doctor's
receptionist. Following her mother's death
in 1950 she went to Vancouver where she
held a similar position for four years.
In 1958, Lorna returned to Toronto and
following her retirement in 1966, returned
to Lucknow to reside.
She enjoyed good health until this past
summer when it became necessary for her
to give up her apartment in the Ashton
block. She became a resident of Brucelea

She was a member of the Lucknow
United Church.
Surviving nieces and nephews are Helen
Thompson, Margaret Thompson, Harold
and Arnetta Thompson, all of Lucknow;
Frances and Bill Hewat of Elmira, Bob
and Edith Thompson of Windsor, Lorna
Needham of New Westminster B.C., and
Dorothy and Dick Lupton of Burnaby B.C.
She was predeceased by her parents and
two sisters, Mrs. W.J. (Louie) Barber of
Vancouver B.C., and Mrs. R.H. (Belle)
Thompson of Lucknow and one brother
Lorne in infancy.
The funeral service was held at the
MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home
in Lucknow with Rev. G. MacFarlane of
the Lucknow United Church officiating.
The pallbearers were four great
nephews Donald Thompson of Lucknow,
David Thompson of Guelph, John Thomp-
son of Windsor and Murray Hunter of
Wingham.
Interment was at the South Kinloss
Cemetery.
Beatrice Alice Payne
Mrs. Beatrice Alice Payne a resident at
Maitland Manor Nursing Home in
Goderich died Thursday, November 27,
1986 at the age of 89.
Born in Craigleith on October 29, 1897,
she' was the daughter of Alexander and
Alice (Wensley) Reekie. Her husband,
James Frederick Payne, predeceased her
in 1973.
Theyfarmed in Euphrasia Township un-
aretiring to Walton in 1967. Mrs. Payne
moved to Dungannon in 1983.
Surviving are sons Harold of Barrhead,
Alberta, Bruce of Vancouver, B.C.;
Maurice of Cambridge; Elgin of Windsor;
and daughters, Mrs. Alice Kiesshng of
Lakewood, California; Mrs. Vivian Read
of, Stoney .Plain, Alberta; Mrs.. .Verna
Ritcey of Middleton, N.S.; and Olive (Mrs.
Leonard Chisholm) of Dungannon. Also
surviving are 15 grandchildren and 14
great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by five brothers....
and three sisters.
A private family service was held Fri-
day evening, November 28, with Rev.
Robert Roberts of Dungannon United •
Church officiating assisted by Mr. John
Williams. A committal service and inter-
mentat - Thornbury Clarksburg Union
Cemetery took place Saturday, November
29.
Pallbearers were Allan Reekie, Bob,
Reekie, Ivan Park, Leonard Payne,. Alex
Chisholm and Colin Chisholm.
CHARLES LEROY BROWN
Charles Leroy Brown, of RR 6 Goderich,
died Saturday, December 6 at the age of
63.
Born in Ashfield Township on 1Viarch 8,
1923, he was the son of the late William
Nelson Brown and the former Maude
Young.
Surviving are brothers William A.
Brown and Benson B. Brown and several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Albert,
John and Jim and sister Allie Fielder.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-,
Callum and Palla Funeral Horne on Mon-
day, December rwith Rev. G.L. Royal of
Knox Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment was in Dungannon Cemetery.
RUBY ADELE HAWTHORNE
Mrs. Ruby Adele Haivthorne of Goderich
died at Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital on Friday, December 5 at the age
of 93.
She was born in Dungannon on July 18,
1893, the daughter of Stephen Stothers and
Sarah Davidson. She was predeceased by
her husband, Walther Hawthorne.
Surviving are one daughter, Doris
Hawthorne of Goderich; five sons, Robert
and Charles both of Hamilton, Franklin of
Lucknow, Donald Qf Toronto, and John of
Beaverton; ten grandchildren and four
great-grandphildren.
The funeral service was held Monday,
December 8 at the McCallum and Palla
Funeral Home with Rev. G.L. Royal of
Knox Presbyterian Church officiating.
