Language and math activities kept all our little spooks busy in the mornings. After-, noons were buzzing with creativity at pain- ting, modelling, crafts and story -making centres. Scary Jack -o -lanterns were carved. With the help of some special mothers, the Grade 1 class made tasty pumpkin cookies for our Hallowe'en party on. Fri- day, which took place after visiting our friends at Pinecrest Manor. Our "Special Me" for the first week of November will be Wendy Hayes. Spook sandwiches • Mrs. Black's little spooks had fun at a Hallowe'en party and also visited the nurs- ing home to say "hello" and to try and spook the residents. The Grade 2's also made their own special Hallowe'en lunch which included spider cookies, ghostly punch and spook sandwiches. Peter Pumpkin helped us learn our Hallowe'en safety rules. Gavin Colwell was the person on spotlight this week. Hallowe'en books The Grade 3 class had an exciting week. at Lucknow Central. Grade 3 students are the authors and illustrators of sortie very scary Hallowe'en books. Grade 3 were delighted to be invited to ,Pinecrest on Hallowe'en to visit our ca"ior citizens, hope we didn't frighten thermwith our original costumes, Thanks for the treats! Grade 3 arrived back, at school in time to enjoy some Hallowe'en games" "Hey old witch", "The Gerbeigek", and °Hallowe"en Guessing Garner, Then the Grade Ws made s • me wtt °ile s brew of lemonade and orange juiee and then enjoyed their purnpp:kin tones, One sad event of the week was saying goodbye to our friend "Cousin Wi1110, We all hope he had a great Hallowe'en, Farming Mrs. Mactntyre and Mrss. Campbell are being partners in a Grade 3 unit oft farm- ing. The group with Mrs,',Mac;Intyre is do- ing research on farming .and Mrs, Camp- bell's groupis making models. Pumpkin muffins After learning all about the characteristics of pumpkins, the Grade 4 class baked some very tasty pumpkin muffins. Spooky research and writing has been completed this week, including Monster Menace, stories about space witches and reports about werewolves, dragons and other creatures. Grade 4's "bookprints" are travelling. quickly around the room as they have now read over 250 books. Redecorating The major operation in Grade 5 for the past few days has been redecorating the room. The class is continuing with the SRA reading labs using the newpaper. Drama Hallowe'en night was dramatized in the amphi-theatre on Wednesday afternoon. The students in the Grade 6 room worked in pairs to prepare costumed skits that depicted 16 different safety ideas. As each group presented their skit, the rest of the class decided which safety rule was being presented. Lots of tests The Grade 7 class has had a. very busy week. Three units of study have come to an end, and as a result, three unit tests. We are all relieved to be through the trying time and are looking forward to new educational encounters. We hope everyone had a great Hallowe'en. Haunted house The Grade 8 class planned and con- ° structed an "eerie" haunted house for the classes of LCPS to visit on Hallowe'en Day, Miss Matte supervised while her Family Studies room; was transformed from a classroom into a spooky environ- ment, When the other classes from the 4 ! came to visit theyhad a scarybut school t,at�tG 'v. fun ti1nc, even the teachers were surprised asp they made their way through the tun- nels, Thank -you Grade 8 for working so hard to make our Hallowe'en a frightfully f5(t0(1 one at L( I' ;. Pomanders The students at '_,CPS sold 2,502 pomanders and made approximately $5,200 profit for the school. Congratula- tions students on a job well done! Remembrance biran ce I)ay The students will be attending the Remembrance Day services at the C enot p on November 11, at 11 a.m. Our band will he playing a few selections. We hope to see you there. UNICEF Mrs. Cayley and three CGIT members presented a brief skit on UNICEF Thurs- day afternoon. Then on Friday we receiv- ed our UNICEF boxes.
