Classes learn about,, cheques

Grade '4 and 5 Portable- 2 have learned
how to write cheques. They've been told
that writing them is the easy part.
Grade 5, Portable 1 met.with their "Peer
Partners" from Mrs. Young's Grade 1-2
class for the first time on Monday to share
stories.
With the help of Matthew Strawbridge
and Ray Snow, Room. ! Grade 6 are con-
structing a classroom mascot in the form
of Expo Ernie. He needs to be stuffed and
stapled. _ .
Mrs. Ottewell's Grade 3 class is still stu-
dyingtrees and they have been doing
many' tree, activities such as "Tree-
mendoas" Talis, tree designing and tree
houses as a follow-up to the trip to, the
Wawanosh Conservation Area.
Homes
Miss Jewitt's Grade 2 class has just
finished a study of homes, from planning a
home, to finishing and decorating homes.
They -even had a chance to stir up a cement
mix to see and feel the texture of a house's
foundation.
Mrs. Young' Grade 1 class has been
working with geometric shapes and mak-
ing shape people and objects. Grade 1 has
just begun their first reader too!
Mrs. Young's Grade two's are having
fun with their spelling activities each day.
Room 4. is currently sharing a wealth of
interesting leaf displays. It's amazing to

see how many different -trees are in our
communities and countryside. Have you
ever seen a ginkgo .leaf? Can you name
three different compound leaves from this
area? The class is, now slithering into a
new theme for October - MONSTERS ! !
(Yikes!) This cycle the class is introduc-
ing Tyler Brooks.
Soccer Teams
On Friday, October 10, Brookside's soc-
cer teams will be travelling to Goderich,
for their annual soccer tournament. Good
luck to all four teams.
The school is now in theprocess of°forrn-
ing the cross-countryteams. On Thursday,
October 16; the teams will travel to the
East Wawanosh Conservation Area at
noon for the competitions.
This week, Brookside has a good news -
bad news story. The school is happy . to
welcome Sandra Machan and Alice
McDowell to our school to help out during
the absence . of two of our staff members.
The students wish both Mr. Blake and Mrs.
Bere speedy recoveries!
Lucknow CGIT hold election
Lucknow CGIT held its first election of
officers at last Monday's meeting.
Heather Priestap is president with Deb-
bie Atkinson as vice-president. Secretary
is Colleen Conley while Marlene Martin
and Meaghan Clarke will share as
treasurer. Debbie Nicholson will keep the
scrapbook and group reps are Janine
Helm and Jennifer MacKinnon.
The group has welcomed four new
members, Sara Nelson, Jennifer MacKin-
non, Marita MacDougall and Stacey Hak
