As indicated in previous releases, this intersection has been an area of concern and our detachment recently completed . a study regarding the accident situation 'during the last five years. Further to the study, on July 29, Sergeant Walker, our detachment commander, along with`, our District ft6 Traffic Sergeant met with town officials and MTC representatives to discuss the intersection. The MTC representatives believed the intersection has been well designed and is well equipped with warning lights and signs and backed this claim by stating this intersection was only 105th out of 140 such intersections in Southwestern Ontario (ie. one provincial highway intersecting with •another provincial highway) in regards to accident -severity. • After .a great deal of discussion, the general concensus was that increased enforcement by the police' at this intersec- tion in regards to the "fail to stop" and "fail to yield" offences under the Highway Traffic Act, would have the greatest effect in reducing the number of accidents at this intersection. The Kincardine OPP have therefore stepped up their patrol efforts in this area and recently have charged a number of drivers with "failing to stop/yield" offences. This enforcement will continue throughout the year. Fishing Derby The Chinook Chantry Fishing Derby is upon us again and the Kincardine OPP has scheduled increased marine patrols in conjunction with the derby. The OPP skiff is being manned by officers from the Kincardine and Walkerton. OPP as well as the Ministry of Natural Resources. We would like to remind everyone again that impaired operation of a vessel is a criminal offence and that the, OPP skiff will be equipped with A.L.E.T.S. (Alcohol Level Evaluation Testers), We urge everyone to use common sense and to follow proper boating procedures to make the derby a safe and successful one. Good luck to all!
