The Lucknow Sentinel, 1986-07-09, Page 9Natural resources worker speaker at graduatton BROOKSIDE By Jennifer Dalton, Madonna Bradley, Rachel Fairbairn, Dawn Jurgens Melissa Logtenberg, Bev Aitchison and Bobbi Ann Menary Grade 8 graduation was held at Brookside School on Monday evening, June 23. Mr. BM Creighton who works with the Ministry of Natural. Resources, was the guest speaker. The valedictorian was Tanya Turner. Steven Rintoul said grace before the meal and Kevin Baltzer propos- ed the toast to Queen and Country. The St. Helens Women's Institute catered to the meal and Randy Burt spoke in appreciation to the ladies. Mr. Tony McQuail brought greetings from the Board of Education and Mr. Arnold Mathers represented the Education Centre Administratibn. Shauna Andrew played a piano solo before intermission. Pianists for the processional of Grade 8 students were two Grade 8 girls, Maryon Dow and Rachel Fairbairn, Mr. Don Cameron . introduced the graduates and Principal Don Tremeer presented the diplomas. Melissa Logten- berg gave a piano solo. Peter Hooftman introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Bill Creighton, who spoke very ably .to the students about setting their goals and dreams and having the determination to keep working to achieve them. Awards presented were as follows: • Paul Caesar Memorial Award, presented by Joyce Caesar to Julie Pentland and Chris MacLennan; Proficiency Award, presented for Dungannon W.I. by presid- ent Elmira Finnigan to Michael Curran; Science Awards, presented for Ashfield Federation of Agriculture and Farmer's Union by Grant Curran to Melissa Logten- berg; Science Award, for West Wawanosh Mrs. Lois Ottewell played for 0 Canada and the young people and their parents enjoyed a social hour and dancing to the music of "The Star Spinners", Clare and Bonnie Hodges. On Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Don • Cameron took his Grade 8 class roller skating in Goderich. The two Grade 2 classes and their teachers Mrs. Clarke and Miss Jewitt and several parents enjoyed a picnic. at St. Christopher's Beach last week. The children were put in small groups with a parent or teacher and walked around the harbour area observing many points of interest. Brookside Staff hosted a luncheon on Thursday, June 26 for the Adult Volunteers who helped in the schooLin various ways through the year. Some tutored individual children or small groups, conducted drill activities, made learning materials or concert costumes, helped repair books in the library or helped on sports days and field trips. He was 66. Mr. Bogues was a member of the Old Light Masonic Lodge No. 184, Royal • Canadian Legion Branch 309, Radar"- ex Association and the Royal Canadian Air- force Association. Born in Windsor on September 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Frank Bogues and Mildred White of Ripley. Be married Ruth Balkwill on May 17, 1941 at Trinity United,Church in Windsor. . He is survived by his wife, one daughter Linda (Mrs. Lorne Emmerton) of Ripley, ' granddaughters Lori Weber (Mrs. Tim Weber) of Ripley, Cindy Enunerton of Ripley and great grandson Brent Weber.
