Lakes ports is the ceremonial presentation
of a top hat by the port's harbour master,
to the captain of the first'ship to enter the
harbour in the spring.
This spring Captain John (Jack)
Johnston of Canada Steamship Lines MV
Tadoussac qualified for his third top hat in
10 years, after a voyage of little more than
R A
two hours. The Tadoussac wintered in
Midland. The first leg of its 1986 traveling
was around the corner to Port McNicol, to
unload the 24,000 tonnes of wheat it carried
from Thunder Bay last fall.
