The theme of the afternoon session was, Peace in our Hearts, and devotions were conducted by Mrs. Donald Bushell, Mrs. Donald Robertson and Mrs. Tom MacDon- ald of Kinlough. The offering was received by Mrs. Elmer Jeffray and Mrs. Tom Inglis with prayers by Mrs. Mac Armstrong of Wingham in the afternoon and by Mrs. J. McKay of Ripley in the evening. Mrs. Douglas Jeffray, Belmore, sang a solo. On behalf of the Maitland Presby- terial, an honorary membership was pres- ented to Mrs. William McKay of Ripley by Mrs. Jim MacDonald, also of Ripley. Mrs. McKay made a fitting , reply. Guest speaker Mrs. George Elliott, Brussels, introduc- ed the speaker, Eleanor Knott of Thorn- bury who is home from her missionary work at Nagpur, India. She is a Nutritionist with Bible College courses. She also spoke on the theme of Personal Peace. She told that our current weather is their typical winter. She spoke of condi- tions in India with 250 million children under the age of 14 and 115 million under four. The average life span is 50. The average birthweight is 2.5 kilograms. They have many problems including high infant mortality rate, impure water, lack of knowledge of good health rules, unemployment, immunization less than 50 per cent, blindness and poor nutrition. Children's rally Mrs. Nugent announced a children's rally planned for June 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Camp Kintail for children in the Maitland Presbyterial. Registration forms must be returned by June 4. Various duties were assigned to the groups to help in this project. Used clothing and especially children's shoes are gratefully received at Goodwill of London. The vice-presidents have made plans for a Presbyterial bus trip on Monday, September 29 via Wiarton to Cape Croker where an Indian meal will be served. As well there will be a film and an address on Native People. These plans are to replace the Fall Rally. Replies to be made to the vice-president by June lb. The Presbyterial board meeting will be held on Monday, September 15 at 2 p.m. at Bluevale Presbyterian Church. A prelude and music for hymns were played by Mrs. Alvin Mundell of Gorrie. Supper was served at Belmore Community Centre. The evening session began with devo- tions on the theme, Peace in the World, conducted by Mrs. Jack Needham, Mrs. Leonard Clarke and Mrs. Ira Dickie of South Kinloss. The Belmore junior choir sang of Peace and Love. Synodical highlights were given by Mrs. Mundell, Mrs. Felker and Mrs. Maulden. The roll call was answered by 69 members. Mrs. Arbuckle introduced Eleanor Knott who showed pictures of her work in India. Mrs. R. Bergman gave the courtesies. Mrs. G. Elliott invited the group to Brussels for 1987 Presbyterial. Mrs. C. McIntosh, Gorrie closed the meeting with prayer. A social time was enjoyed. A display made for the synodical on Francophone Ministry was set up to be viewed. The Day Centre has been participating in a Water Exercises Program at Vanastra Recreation Centre near Clinton. Any older adult in the community is invited to join the Centre in this special program. May 21, June 4 and June 18, are upcoming dates for The Day Centre also had some other staff changes this week. On May 9, .I resigned as the .Director of the Centre, as I have accepted the position of Recreation Co-ordinator at Bluewater Centre for Young Offenders near Goderich. Pam Wil- liams, the former Assistant Director has been promoted to the position of Director. of the Day Centre, and a new Assistant Director is in the proces of being hired. At this time, I would like to say to all Lucknow Seniors involved in the Day Centre program, good-bye, and thank -you for a happy and challenging work exper- ience at the Day Centre over the past six years. It has been very rewarding to have had the opportunity to work with the wisest group of the population - Seniors.
