In game four, Lucknow met the fast -skating Wiarton team that eventu- ally won the championship. Wiarton scored first but Lucknow came back on goals by Scott Hackett from Chris Irwin and by Jeff Walden from Brad Priestap to end the period with a 2 - 1 lead. Wiarton scored two in the second and one early in the third to take a 4 - 2 Lead and the game. About the mid -point of the period Brad Priestap scored from Irwin and John Vandervelde to bring the team within a goal but that was all the scoring. The sixth attacker helped keep the play in the Wiarton zone for the last minute and a half but at the bell, the score was Wiarton 4, Lucknow 3. In game seven, a flat Lucknow squad met Port Elgin B. Although Lucknow scored first and controlled the game, they allowed Port Elgin to tie the game at 4 - 4 before a couple of late goals registered a 6 - 4 win. Dan Gilchrist lead scoring with three goals and one assist. Jeff Walden scored two goals and added two assists. Brad Priestap had three assists and John Vand- ervelde had two. Andy Grazier added a goal and single assists went to Chris Irwin and Jeff Gibson. In game nine, Lucknow met Walkerton B in the consolation final and skated to a 6 - 2 win. The game was never in question as Lucknow took a 5 - 0 lead before giving up the shut -out and ending the game with the trophy. "Good repair job" for well •from page 1 Based on the longevity of the first shaft, council decided against replacing the nine year old shaft. "The cast iron of the existing bowl assembly is corroded and the assembly should be replaced. Similarly, the column pipe and couplings should be changed," states a letter received from Peter Jarvis of International Water Supply, Ltd., Barrie. Replacingthe bowl and bowl assembly, the unit doing the pumping inside the well, would cost an estimated $7,750 using the old shaft. Replacing the entire unit, including the shaft, is estimated at $10,386. "If we put the old shaft back in and it breaks down, insurance picks up the tab," noted Austin. Because the parts come from California, U.S. exchange accounts for much of the price included in the estimate, with the final price adjusted to the exchange rate in effect at the time of import. Jarvis said delivery will take six or seven weeks. On top of the part prices and the exchange rate, Jarvis estimated total labor at about $4,500. That would put the total cost of the minimum amount of well work at about $12,250 with retail sales tax extra. The Lucknow water system pumps from 140,000 to 150,000 gallons of water per day in the winter, said Austin. This is down from the summertime consumption of 200,000 to 300,000 gallons of water and makes it an ideal time to perform such inspections. Well no. 5 will be the next to receive inspection. The scoreboard read: Priestap, two goals, one assist; Scott Hackett two goals; Walden one goal, one assist; Grazier one goal; assists to Kevin De Jong, Steve De Jong, Fred Flanagan, Steve Huffman, Irwin, Steve Murray and Vandervelde. On Monday night at home, the Midgets started their playoff quest with a convinc- ing 7 - 1 victory over Paisley. In the opening game of a best of three series, the Lucknow squad appeared ready for a slower Paisley team. Lucknow scored on their second shift and applied constant pressure throughout the first half of the game. The defensive component, lead by Brian Reavie between the pipes and blue - liners Gibson, Grazier, Murray and Vand- ervelde generally cleared the zone effect- ively while fast skating forwards held most of the play in the Paisley end of the rink. With about 10 minutes left in the game and the score 6 - 1, Paisley decided to protest the game because there were three officials, one referee and two linesmen. The move was 'a surprise since the game officials hadn't done any of the scoring. On the scoreboard: Jeff Walden from Grazier and Priestap; Scott Hackett from Huffman; Scott Hackett from Irwin; Brad Priestap. from Dan Gilchrist and Murray; . Dan Gilchrist from Priestap and Vander- velde; Brad Priestap unassisted; and Gilchrist from Grazier. Next game is in Paisley on Feb. 5 and a third if necessary also in Paisley on Feb. 12.
