40111 club gets facts on milk
The second meeting of Whitechurch 4-H
club was held on Jan. 27 at Mrs. Elliott' at
4:30. The girls opened with the pledge.
The rollcall was answered by five girls.
Mrs. Elliott discussed wrong ideas about
milk, nutrients in milk, pasteurizing milk,
and different kinds of milk. Members com-
pared goat's milk and cow's milk.
Mrs. Elliott also demonstrated cheese
fondue and Cathy Dow demonstrated hot
cocoa. Mrs. Wardrop discussed special
milks and buying milk, storage tips,
cooking with milk and white sauce. The
next meeting will be Feb. 7 at Mrs.
Wardrop's at 4:30. Mrs. Elliott listed
needed supplies and asked for ideas for a
club name.
The members then tasted the cheese
fondue and .the hot cocoa and closed with
the creed.

Mrs. Clara Irwin of Lucknow visited her
sister, Mrs. Mary Lou Glover at St.
Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia on Jan. 29.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan of
Whitechurch attended the funeral of their
infant granddaughter Christin Leanne
Glover in Sarnia on Wednesday.
On Saturday evening, Mrs. Jean Tiffin ,
held a birthday party for her sister, Mrs.
Isabel Tiffin of Lucknow. Present were Mr.
and Mrs. HectorPurdori, and Mrs. Cassie
Mowbray of Strathroy; Mr. -and Mrs. Hugh
McMillan of Sarnia; Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Purdon; Mr. and Mrs. Les .Purvis of Luck -
now; Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer; and
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Falconer, Tony, Tim
and Amy.
Mrs. Agnes Farrier returned home the
first of the week after• visiting with her
daughter Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davis, Scott
and Mark of La Salle for a couple of weeks.
Mrs. Hector Purdon of Strathroy is going
to visit with Mrs. Cassie Mowbray for a few
weeks, while Mr. and Mts. Relison Fal=
coner of Sarnia are holidaying in Florida.
Callers on Victor and Mrs. Emerson on
Wednesday were Wilford Clipperton and
Rev. G. Ball who was on his way to the
annual meeting held that evening in the
United Church.
Mrs. Doris Willis was a caller on Thurs-
day on Mr. and Mrs. Emerson.
Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. E.
W. Beecroft were Ronald, Kevin and
Shannon Beecroft, Sharon Worth and Ken
Sinnamon, all of Wingham.
There will be no meeting of Whitechurch
Women's Institute in February.
Mrs. Peter Leslie and Sheena of London
visited Wednesday to Friday with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Currie.
Hector Purdon returned home on Sunday
to Strathroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McMillan of Sarnia
spent the weekend with Mrs. Wesley Tiffin
and visited with Wesley in the Wingham
Hospital.

Annual church "meeting
The annual meeting of Whitechurch
United Church was held Jan. 29 in the
United Church with Rev. G. Ball chairman
and a good attendance present. Rev. Ball
opened with Paul's letter to the Philippians
followed by prayer. It was decided to
continue with the Oberver in every family
plan in 1986. The United Church Women,
with a membership of 11, reached their
allocation and had a very successful year.
The mission and service fund was reached.
In all departments of the church a very
good year was reached.
Students learn- about nursery rhymes
BROOKSIDE

Kindergarten 2, Mrs. Blanchette's
grade,are learning more about nursery
rhymes. They are algo studying about snow
and winter.
Grade 7, Room 11 continues to share
books and thoughts with their Grade 2
reading buddies. This week each Grade 7
students has chosen a suitable library book
to share with their buddy.
The Room four alphabet journey into
space is just about over. The class has
visited all the planets and have designed
planets tool To learn how rockets work, the
class had a balloon travelling across the
room, and made rockets. One day they
made Martians - and ate them! To end the
unit, the alphabets is planning and draw-
ing the perfect planet together. It's called
Alphaperfect!?Scott Faber was the "Spec-
ial Me" last week.
Miss Je*itt's Grade 2, Room 3, are
planning a day of snow activities outdoors.
They will be snowshoeing, measuring
depths of the snow and making snow
snakes. They will also have snow relays
and a Fox and Geese game.
Mrs, Worsell's Grade 5 class had a hot-
dog lunch on Jan. 24. Special thanks to
Jamie Chisholm, Dana Park, and Jodie
Riley for bringing dessert.
The class is working on'a unit about pigs
this weekThey are writing in. pig Latin,
designing pierced nose rings for pigs and
writing pig tales, among other activities.
On Jan. 31 Mrs. Young's Grade 1, Room
one had a hot dog party to say farewell to
snowy January. The class is also learning.

Grade 4, Room 9. were pleased to kart
that Mrs. Graham and daughter Adria got-
home from London . ;last week. Adria; is
making progress and Mrs. Graham will be
back in her classroom next week. The class
appreciates Mrs. Carol `'Nivirts'"` competent

help in the class while Mrs. Graham was
away.
The students are starting a unit on the
Inuit People.
In Miss Mathers' Grade 1 class students
have been talking about bears - big bears,
black bears, teddy bears, care bears, every
kind of bear. On Tuesday everyone brought
their bears to school and had a Teddy
Bear's Picnic. It was fun!
Mrs. Ottewell's Grade 3 has a new
students, Michelle McClinchey, transfer-
red from Victoria School in Goderich. The
class has been reading and doing activities
about Pinocchio. They also saw an excel-
lent video tape of his adventures.
Regional Workshop
A Regional Enrichment Workshop,
Blizzard of Books, was held at Brookside
School on Jan. 29 and 29, conducted by
Deb Heslinga, Huron County co-ordinator
for enrichment, and Louise Sygrove, area
resource teacher for this region.
Participating werefourpupils from each
of five schools, Holmesville, Colborne,
Victoria, Robertson and Brookside. Mrs.
Mona Mulhern, an artist from Goderich,
came on Jan. 28 to share some of her ideas
and techniques with the children.
After a session of photography and
brainstorming, the children made books to
express their ideas. Some excellent prod-
ucts came out of this experience and these
will be circulated among the participating
schools. Much appreciated helpers on Jan.
29 } were Mrs. Claudia Baskerville, and
Mrs. Cathy Stecca.
Miss Jill Clynick accompanied the girl's
team and Mr. Charles Liddle accompan-
ied _; the boy's team -to the volleyball
tournament in Goderich t:n Jana 31 which
involved five schools.
The girls put forth an excellent effort and
qL try ide ' a good slowing in, competition with
the 'first place _.team. The boys. showed a
tremendous effort and played well 'against
tough competition'
