Traditions are important part o season
' We have a special family custoin
that we follow each Chrisunas Eve.
Aunts, uncles and cousins come
together and have a big diner that
day. On Christmas Eve we are
allowed to open one of our presents
from a brother, sister, father or
mother. People start getting together
at about 11 a.m. When they get
there they put some presents under
the tree. We get hugs and kisses
from some of thein.
Brad J. Wilson, LCPS
One cif our family traditions is all
the members -of our family going to
a friend's place and cutting down
our Christmas tree together.
Stuart Moffat, LCPS

The reason why we celebrate
Christmas is to remember the birth
of Jesus Christ. Some people forget
the meaning of"Christmas and think
'it's all about opening presents,
chocolate, big dinners and get
togcthcrs.
It's o.k. for us to have big din-
ners, get togcthcrs and chocolate, as
long as we remember what the real
reason is. The real reason why I

Why We celebrate Christmas
We celebrate ' Christmas to
remember Jesus' birth. Some people
forget the true meaning of
Christmas. Christmas 'is not about
eating dinners, and remembering
Santa Claus, id's about Jesus' birth.
1 think we should celebrate
Christmas by retelling the
Christmas story. But the most im-
portant thing to remember is Jesus
is the reason for the season.
Heather Lootsma
Grade 8, LDCS.
When we celebrate Christmas we
celebrate the corning of Jesus. We
have plays at schools with the
wisomen and the shepherds.
We celebrateJesus coming down
to earth, to save us from our sins.
Some, people • just think about
Santa Claus who was adopted by
St. Nicholas. (St. Nicholas was a
man . who went around giving
people presents in the Netherlands).
When we celebrate Christmas we
celebrate Jesus.
Andy Luchics
Grade 7, LDCS.
.In Holland, people' celebrate two
parties. One is held on .December 5,
called Saint 'Nicholas. And on
December 25, they ccicbratc.
Christmas.
The Dutch •people give gifts on
Saint Nicholas and not on
Christmas.. Saint Nicholas is a fel-
low who wears a big red robe and
a red hat with a cross on it. He has
a golden staff and rides on a white
stallion. He gives toys to the
children and his helpers. Black
Peter' gives them candy. Saint
Nicholas comes from Spain in a
ship and is to be a Bishop. 'On
Christmas the'Dutch folk don't give
gifts but they do have a Christmas
tree.
