The G o d of comfort and hope
Listening to the evening news or .reading the newspaper
headlines can be a depressing experience in these times.
They tell us about bad news. Crime against persons and
property seems out of control. Tragedy and heartbreak
disrupts usually peaceful households. Fear grips 59 many
people and traps them In economic and political struggles.
These are anxious times for us all whether we consider life
on a global scale or in a personal way. Caught as we are,
there Is a temptation to surrender to hopelessness and
despair.
Yet, it is for times like these that the Church's message of
Christmas is most relevant and urgent. The good news Is
that we are not abandoned by God. God comes with comfort
and hope most especially in those times when life Is darkest.
It's an ancient message written for a captive people,
Cbmfort, comfort my people.
Your God will come and save you.
In the birth of Jesus, God has taken on human form and
moved In with us. Comfort and hope comes to us In a babe
born in Bethlehem. Open your life to receive these gifts of
good news.
May comfort, hope, peace and joy abound in your life this
Christmas and always.

Minister of the Lucknow and
South Kinloss Presbyterian Churches.
Traditions at the
Sande household
"Twits the night before Christmas
and all through the house." At our
house reading The Night before
Christmas is one of our Christmas
traditions we do on Christmas Eve.
Another tradition is putting up
stockings. 1 remember when one, of
my relatives told me when they
were little they would -put up panty
hose so lots of things would fit in.
Dad wouldn't let me because he
said that would be greedy.
"Me," "No me It's always a
fight for who will put baby Jesus in
the manger scene. People put up
manger scents so we will remember
Jesus was born Christmas day.
This year Inc and my sister Laura
arc going to alter serve for
Christmas Eve mass. It is usually
hard to sit through 1.he mass
because we are all so excited about
Chrisunas.
"Dad, want someone to help you
carry the Christmas ,tree"? "I
thought you would never ask"!
Getting the tree in the house is a
pain but a pleasure to decorate.
As long as you....dccoratc your
tree with Iovc take some love and
fill it up. Heather Sande, LCPS.
