`Santa Cows' will visit Brookside school concert

Oh my gosh, it's almost
Christmas! Brookside's concert is
on Dec. 14 at 7:30. p.m. Some
classes will be sharing a serious
look at Christmas with plays, skits
and' poems about the meaning of
Christmas, including a nativity play.
"Santa Cows" will be visiting for a
humorous look at Christmas! The
'Junior Choir will also be perfor-
ming with their beautiful voices.
After the concert there will be
coffee, cookies, and juice. The
goodies are provided by Brookside
•
Clubs, and sold by our Parent Ad-
visory Committee, with proceeds
going to the clubs for projects.
This Christmas the two nature clubs
will be earning money for planting
in the spring.
On the 23rd day of the . 11th
month .in the . forest of many
readings, the Indians of the grade
seven • tribe made a potlatch
celebration come alive again. The
students each had Learned about a
tribe of Canada and presented the
information and a display or a
"creation" (such as a headross or a
totem pole) to their teacher,

BROOKSIDE BROADCAST
Mrs.Worscll and the teacher -
librarian, Mrs.Clarke. There were
many great projects!
On Potlatch day, there were three
centres, one for making paper bead
necklaces with Mrs. DeBruyn and
Mrs. Cox, one for baking bannock
(indran flat bread) with Ms. Wolf,
and one for making totem poles..A
potlatch feast was held at lunchtime
with tasty, Indian and pioneer
recipes ,Lo try. The purpose of the
unit was to expand the students'
knowledge about Indian tribes.
Including Brookside's new Junior
Kindergarten students, there arc
now three busy classes - Mrs.
Hodsman's (KB and KC) and Mrs.
Cameron's (KA). The classes have
been enjoying a unit on animals.
They have had a pet show with lots
of visitors. There were rats, chick-
ens, cats and dogs! They have read
a lot of books, and there's one book
they especially enjoyed: "If You
Give A Mouse A Cookie."
They are very excited' about
Christmas! They are decorating
trees, angels, stars and wreaths, and
they are reading exciting stories.
In their classroom they are putting
together a Toyland puzzle and
talking about toys.

Volleyball
OA Saturday the 26th, Brookside
seniors went to a volleyball tour-
nament. Mr. Graihwas the senior
boys' coach, and Mr. Whiteley
was the senior girls' coach. The
senior boys won first place, and
the senior girls won second.
Foster child
The Foster Child Committee
(Greg Burgess, Mary Cox, and
Matt Selkirk) has been preparing a
letter and Christmas package for
Froilan Condori; Brookside's
foster child. Froman is 6, and
lives in Bolivia. •His uncle writes
to the students at Brookside for
Froilan, and his brother Daniel
sends lovely pictures that he
draws. Daniel is 16 now and he
used to be the Brookside foster
child.
