NHL goalie visits Lucknow
by Pat Livingston
Practice time for the Lucknow
Pee Wee A team was more exciting
than usual last Thursday. The squad
had the opportunity toax►eet Craig
Billington, goalie for the NHL's
Ottawa Senators, right in the Luck -
now arena.
$illington's brother lives in the
Ripley area. With ,the continuing
NHL strike, Craig was combining
some business with a visit to his
brother. He booked some time at
the local arena "to kccp my legs in
shape" and was taking his brother,
Mark, on in a game of squash.
The team members, along with
coaches and other adults, were
delighted that Craig took the time
Atom A's
win over
Durham
Ricky Andrew opened the scoring
early in the first period when the
Lucknow Atom A's hosted Durham
last Friday. Brian Stanley and Dan
McDonagh assisted on' the goal.
Durham responded, with their
only goal of the night, to tic the
game.
Jeff McNee put Lucknow in the
Lead after picking up a pass from
Darlene Aitchison.
During the second period, the
Durham goalie was kept, busy and
let three slip by him. Two
scrambles in front of the net
resulted in Devin Petteplace and
Scott Austin picking up a pair with
assists being credited to Russ..
Mann, Tim Eadic and Stuart Mof-
fat. B. Stanley topped off the
scoring assisted by Andrew and S.
Moffat to make the final score 5 - 1
for Lucknow.

to autograph colored pictures of
himself and talk to the kids.
Craig and his dad run the Bil-
lington goalie school out of Lon-
don, and a clinic was scheduled in
Kincardine for Sunday. During a
normal season, his dad runs the
school in the winter and Craig gets
involved in the summer season.
This year, with the NHL strike
continuing, Craig -is devoting some
time to scouting out the. area for
locations for summer clinics.
The London native said this is the
first year, since he was 15, that he
had been home when there was
snow on. the ground.
"I'm not going to sit and mope;
I'm being productive with my
time," said Craig. "In ,the darkest
light, there's usually some oppor-
tunity to be found."
Craig's surprise visit was
motivation for one young Lucknow
player, who was overheard to say,
"Someday, I'll have pictures like
that ofmyself, and I'll be
autographing them too." With hard
work and a positive attitude like
that, anything is possible.
The Pee Wee A team had a treat instore for them during
practice time last week. Craig Billington, goalie with the Ottawa
Senators, who was using the local ice to help keep in shape,
took time out to autograph pictures for the players. Shown with
Craig are, from the left, Brian Stanley, Dennis Andrew and Jeff
Andrew. (Pat Livingston photo)
