Propose that municipalities
waive dumping, building
fee to help reduce costs
KINLOSS TOWNSHIP - Aimed,
at helping to reduce costs, it has
been proposed ..that Kinloss, Ash-
field and West Wawanosh
townships share, cost-free on a one-
third basis, the debris which results
from the constructionof phase two
of the sports complex in Lucknow,
with the village of Lucknow
waiving• the building permit fee.
Council passed the motion at the
Nov. 7 meeting, • •
Council passed a bylaw confir-
ming and ratifying the agreement
between Multiplex Engineering Inc.
and the phase two project commit-
tee.
The livestock valuer's report for a
•
claim Submitted by Lloyd Graham,
'in the amount of $25() for two
.ewes, was accepted.
Subject to the building inspector's'
approval, permits will be issued to
David Hanna, Langsidc Farms, and •
Murray Adams. , .
A verbal request to repair steps at
the Whitechurch Hall was tabled for
the new council to consider.
The .clerk gave a report on the
meeting he attended in regard to
Union Gas coming to the area.
Union Gas requested that a bylaw
be given two readings to allow
them to proceed into the township
in the future. Council agreed not to
do anything at this time. •
Landfill coalition group
continues investigation
Around 60 interested citizens met
at.the Nov. 11 meeting of the West
Wawanosh Landfill Coalition. Most
of those .in attendance were from
the affected area on the 6/7 conces- •
sion and the Amish community.
Bill Dankwardt, Kevin Shiels and
Walter Elliott, three candidates
running in the municipal election,
introduced themselves and stated
their position on the proposed
landfill...Bob Hallam arrived after
the formal meeting, but stayed to
speak to several people during the
social time.
Audrey and Grant Johnston
reported on the last liaison commit-
tee meeting they attended,
concluding that there is very little
.concrete organization regarding
what happens to the candidate sites
after the drilling process is
completed.
Bev Grierson gave a. lengthy
report on the letter received from
Craig Metzger (Huron County plan-
ning committee) in response to the
'brief presented to his committee in
August. Each of the rcoalition's
Concerns' was addressed but no
concrete soluu•ons were offered to
any of them. Mrs. Grierson alsd
read a letter that was sent to Mr.
Metzger by the coalition last week
asking for clarification of •the sys-
tem used to eliminate sites in other,
townships. They were asking if
there were any similarities between
the Wawano. h • sites and those
eliminated in Colborne, especially
C4. Evidently this information 'is
not available until a complete report
is published in January.
Mr. Johnson reported on •the
status of the drilling taking place on
both of the Wawanosh sites and
passed on information gleaned from
the persons doing the drilling. He
asked each of the affected ' lan-
downers to pass on any information
they had regarding •the drilling. '
Official reports on the drilling will
not be available until early in the
new year. .
Sandra Harm'cr,
secretary/treasurer; • appealed to
everyone who feels .threatened by
the possibility of the dump to write
a letter to the coalition or, directly
to the planning committee as those
considerations (human and social"
impact) have.to be addressed at the
next stage. She reminded the group
that they 'are still the most or-
ganized -protest .group, and the only
group to have support from people .
other than the affected landowners.
Due to the generosity of Ethel
McAllister with the donation of
several pounds of her, beef burger,
the group was able to close the
•meeting with a social time to enjoy
• homemade chili. '

Meanwhile, drilling has been
completed on the two Ashfield
township properties and drilling
on the two remaining West
Wawanosh sites was to be
cofipleted :last week. Results of
• the subsoil testing is expected by,
late this year of early 1995.
