Deadline dates for advanced payments
OMAFRA offices have just
received the application forms for
advance payment on stored crops.
The crop can be stored on-farm or
at commercial elevator or storage.
The application deadline for
wheat passed on Sept. 30. The
deadline for corn, soybeans, small
grains, canola, spelt and apples is
Feb. 28.
The advance payment is roughly
half the value.. For instance, corn is
$57/t and mixed grain is $50/t.
There is an administration fee
deducted from your Cheque. The fee
depends on the size of the advance
payment. For example,the fee for
corn is $80 if your advance is less
than $25,000. When you sell \ or
feed the crop, you pay back' the
advance.

ARM REPORT
BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhea) is the
talked about disease and most
producers have added it to their
vaccinating program.
As determined from last year's
outbreaks, "holes" in a vaccination
program or no vaccination program
at all can cause serious financial
losses.
Feedlot and background operators
should be consulting with their
veterinarians to decide on their
vaccination program. They should
also try to obtain what their new
purchases may have already been
vaccinated with and when.
"WHAT" vaccine is important so
the operator can determine if a
26. Help Wanted
booster is needed. "WHEN" is
more important because if a booster
is not received in the recommended
time period of three to four weeks,
you are leaving a "hole" in the
program. Also to be fully im-
munized against BVD calves should
receive their vaccinations after six
months of age. Any part of the
vaccination program given before
six months should be repeated after
six months of age.
Cow/calf producers need to pay
attention to the six month time
frame as well. Also they need to
remember to vaccinate and isolate
any new additions to their herd.
BVD is a serious disease of our
beef industry, so if you wish to
prevent an outbreak on your farm,
consult- your veterinarian, set up a
vaccination program and be
thorough in its delivery!
