serving more than half of Bruce
County.
Village stats show about 50 per
cent participation in recycling. The
eost is less than $10 ' per
. household/year, which is "about
one-third of what it costs in Lon-
don," said Gibson.
Recreation programs are budgeted
at $37,600 and arena operation at
$60,400 for 1994.
Lillian Abbott said a joint
recreation agreement was signed by
Lucknow, Ashfield, Kinloss and
West Wawanosh this year. The cost
is on a shared -basis according to
percentage of use and population.
Lynn Peck reported that under the
Greenway project this year, 688
trees and 308 wildflowers were
planted. ' She complimented the
various organizations involved in
the project on their participation.
A project under consideration is a..
`memorial forest' at Caledonia
Park, Peck said.
New signs for the village _ are
close to completion, at a cost of
about $4,000. Peck said they should
be ready for installation in the near
future.
The Lucknow Hydro operates as
a separate entity from the village.
Reavie said the construction of the
new substation didn't cost taxpayers
any money, as the rent of $30,000
per year for the substation south of
' town is now diverted towards the
new substation. "The only debt the
village has is about $130,000 on the
substation," Reavie 'said in a later
interview.
Council is waiting to hear on
various applications made for
infrastructure funds for fencing at
the substation, `paving, sidewalks
and renovation of council chambers
and the town hall, as well as the
connecting link. Proposed road
.construction for next year includes
Inglis and Outram Steets.

A draft plan of the Lucknow and
District Arena Complex - Phase II
was displayed. This was a
preliminary drawing only.
Reavie explained that the Phase II
committee had to have a contractor
in place and the contract let almost
immediately if/when funding was'
approved from the province. -

1994 Budget Tax Levies
The committee recently invited
six companies to tender for
facilitator of the project. The
facilitator -acts on behalf of the
'committee, and will call for
contract tenders as the project
proceeds.
•
Three tenders were received ran-
ging from $50,000 to• $98,000.
Multiplex Engineering Ltd. of Port
Elgin had the successful tender at
$52,500. This was a straight tender
with no -extra clauses coming into
play depending on the complexity
of the project. Until confirmation is
received on funding; it is not known
exactly what type of reconstruction
will take place.
The candidates running . for elec-
tion this year were then given the
opportunity to introduce themselves
and explain why they were running.
They are Lillian Abbott, Robert
Jones, Rick McMurray, Lynn Peck,
Tom Pegg, Raylene Rebryna and
Paul Zinn. Profiles on tlie can-
didates were published 11 in last
week's Sentinel.
Stuart Reavie° was acclaimed to
another term as reeve.
