week, highlighting the three R's -
reduce, recycle, reuse. A short skit
was presented to students and staff
to help kick off the week. On Oct.
17 a waste audit was conducted.
Only the recycling box, composting
container and a small bag were in
each classroom. Garbage cans were
removed for the entire day. At the
end of school. .the litter was col-
lected and weighed. •
These were the results of our
Waste Audit: compost - 2.27, cans -
1.36, glass - 2.72, fine paper
0.45, garbage - 4.54, plastic - 0,45:
for a total of 11.79 kg. •
The next time we do an audit,
students won't be told ahead of
time. Will we be able to keep our
waste audit this low'? Can LCPS be
aware of waste reduction, Week
throughout the entire year? We
hope so!
The Pumpkin Run was held. on
Oct. 18. The run is a ,finale to our
cross country season. With the
generous support of the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch 309,. we
were able to award pumpkin

each division. Local businesses
offered their support with cash and
donations for draw prices. All

In the library the• resource centre
is humming with • enthusiastic
readers, researchers and teachers
looking for novels. This year the
senior classes have a "Read4In"
session once a week. Having Paul
Kropp visit has been a boost
because his books are always out.
Mrs. Maclntyre will lend her copy
of "The Reading Solution," by Mr.
Kropp to any interested parent.
The Grade One class has been
working' on a Harvest Theme. We
have 'been using all our 'senses to,
learn about vegetables and fruit -
where they grow, how they are
used, how they feel, smell, and
taste. We made books about "Fall
Fun," and . painted beautiful fall
flowers on tissue paper paintings.
We finished our Harvest unit by
making Corn Cob Goblins for our
Halloween tables. We are looking
forward to visiting Pinecrest Nur-
sing Home with our "scary" cos-
tumes. •
Problem Solvers .
Now that the mediation program
at LCPS is well underway the
primary children are not as hesitant
to req.) assistance from our
problu 1. solvers. The younger
childrer, are responding well to the
aspect of having •Grade 8s on the
yard to help them resolve their
conflicts with other students. The
primary students are taking this
program very seriously as their
behavior on the yard is improving
even after one session of mediation.
Not only are the younger students
benefiting from this program, but
the problem solvers themselves are
