Local runners participate
in cross-country race
Five Lucknow and arca cross
country runners, who arc members
of the Wingham Optimist Track' and
Field Club, participated in their first
race on Saturday at Sunnidalc Park,
Barrie. •
In the Mite girls division., Heather
Lougheed placed fifth over the 1(X)
moire course, The Mite boys, B.J.
Mayer and Hamish Black helped
anchor the team to a first place
finish. B.J. placed ninth, Hamish
placed fifth and Tom Pettigrew of
Wingham placed second.
In the closest contested race of ,
the day, the Tyke boys Sandy
l,.oughced placed 14th while Nigel
Black finished second, less than one
second behind Kevin Hill of
Markham Track & Field Club, over
the 1520 metre course.
the next cross country race "ru-
nning on time" will be hosted by
the. Wingham Club on Saturday,
Oct. 1 at F.E. Madill Secondary
beginning at 10 a.m.
Surprise Thompsons on
40thanniversary
Robert and Edith Thompson of
Windsor marked their 40th wedding
anniversary. on Saturday, Sept. 17
with a surprise family gathering in
Windsor.
Bob is the son of the late 'Robert
Thompson and Isabel Campbell of
Lucknow. He served in the Royal
Canadian Navy during World Wart
II and spent most of his post war
employment with the federal.
government as a radio operator at
Windsor Airport.
His wife, the former Edith Munro
came to Lucknow as a Public
Health Nurse with Bruce 1 County
Health Unit in the late 1940s and
'served southern Bruce County from
the Lucknow office. ,
Bob and Edith were married on
Sept. 18, 1954 at Edith's ' home
church in Apple Hill, in eastern
Ontario, in the Cornwall area.
They have a family of three: John
Thompson 'of Ottawa, Robert Jr.,
his wifc Pat and their children,
Daniel and Caroline of Toronto; a
