• United Church Women service
explores Labour Day theme
"Labour Day" was the theme for
the worship service at the meeting
of the Lucknow United Church
Women, Unit 3, held September
6th.
The committee Jane Treleaven,
Kathleen Collyer, Margaret Corrin
and Ilene Greer conducted. the ser-
vice with scripture, prayer,
meditation and, hymns accompanied
by Laura Lee Cayley. Joanne
Vander Veen favored with vocal
selections.

she and Mary Boyle took to Belize,

supper held
The ladies of the Lucknow Pres-
byterian WMS held a pot tuck
dinner at the church on Wednesday,
Sept. 7 to start their fall programs.
Everyone signed a get well card for
longtime 'member, Jessie Johnston
who is in hospital recovering from
surgery.
Donalda Moffat wasin charge of
the program and chose as her call
to worship a poem Living Today
and also Sermon in Rhyme. Peggy
Henderson played the - piano to
accompany some of the well known
older hymns of thanksgiving.
The devotions were read.by Fern
MacDonald with- scripture. from
. Proverbs 10: 1 - 5. The meditation,
was entitled "We Can't Quit Now".
She told us that a -quitter never wins
and a winner never quits. She also
had an .article for Senior Citizens
"Free to Follow Your Own Path."
The topic was in the form of a
video on the many faces of the
Caribbean. It showed some of the
similarities. and ' differences the
.people of the islands have and some
of .,their -problems that they 'en-
counter.
Phemie Cameron read two poems
for the variety number "Heaven's
Grocery Store and The Train of
Life."
During the business part of the
meeting Shirley Hawthorne reported
that eight ladies had attended a
meeting in Wingham on . Tuesday
• when they had a representative
from the Leprosy'Mission speaking
and showing slides. .
On. Thursday there are seven
ladies going on the Presbyterial Bus
Trip.
A thank you cardwas read from
Kathleen MacDonald for flowers
she had received on her 90th
birthday and Margaret Mowbray
expressed her thanks for the bou-
• quet of glads she had received on
her 80th birthday.

Citizenship by Kathleen Collyer
who read an article about
"Thoughts for Summer Vacation";
for Christian Education, Laura 'Lee
Cayley reported 90 children have
registered for Sunday School; for
Social Functions; Marlene Struthers
.asked for food and help" for the.
upcoming Presbyterial meeting;
Fellowship of the Least Coin by
Mary Boyle.
The General meeting will be
September 20 at 8 p.m, Anne
Anderson and Mary Lou Irwin read
the U.C.W. Benediction to close the
meeting.
