holds May
meeting
The May meeting of Bruce Pres-
byterial UCW was held at Elmwood
United Church, with Rita Owens
extending greetings on behalf of the
local UCW. President • Wilda
Thompson opened the meeting for
'the business of the day.
This meeting by the Stewardship
division featured special speaker;
Rev. Bill Steadman. He has been
serving as theRegional Stewardship•
Consultant for Waterloo and Huron-
, Perth Presbyteries of Hamilton and
Toronto Conferences, respectively.
In his message we, were reminded
that Stewardship is primarily an
issue of faith, commitment;
wholeness, and excitement for life.
It is in the latter two areas that we
are led to . sharing. and ' com-
munication.
We need to communicate in 'a
pastoral sense, as well as a commit-
ment sense. But above all,
Stewardship involves our' being
thankful, both.in the church and •in
the community.
In order to generate the sense of
commitment, the Church of .today
needs to have "Vision beyond it
self' -- we should be committed to
church and community' first, then
work or school, then family, and
self is last. We need to get. more
people involved in . the
church/community, or we need to
look at different ways of continuing
the .activities of the•group. We need
to know our people better,.because
Stewardship is about knowing and
caring for others.
In the afternoon session we dealt
with more specific planning 'and
programming:
We are encouraged to plan our
programs in conjunction with the
church's calendar year t, (e.g.
• Christmas, Easter; TenDays for
World Development, ),3aptism).
Once special focus events are
posted on the calendar,: we , can
indicate times for a mission focus'
or a stewardship. education focus
throughout the year.
We • also looked. • at the

"traditional" cash society, as op-
posed to the "technological" charge
society of today: In this exercise we
.recognized the, advantages of pre-
authorized remittances, PAR,. as a
means of .regular givings to the
ongoing support of the church.
The closing' worship included
prayers of celebration and thankful-
ness, Stewardship hymns (with
words by Bill Steadman); the scrip-'
Lure . passages' and a message on..
