Couple visits war -time office

Russ and Mabel Whitby returned
home last Wed. after spending three
weeks in England. •
While there they. visited with
Mabel's mother who is 96 years old
and enjoys fairly good health. They
also visited Dover Castle where
Winston Churchill had his war -time
office where details of the war were

Institute
Kinloss Kairshea Institute met in
the hall on Thursday, May 19th at
7:45 with 20 members and one
visitor present.
Alice Ritchie, our president,
presided and opened with a poem,
Vacations. Ruth Langen was the
hostess.
The meeting opened in the usual
way. Our Institute received in-
ivitations to the following Anniver-
saries.
'The Lucknow Junior Institute will
be celebrating their 20th Anniver-
sary May 21st in . the Lucknow
Town Hall at 8 p.m. •
The Ripley Institute will be
having i their 90th Aitni'iersary on
June 3rd at 2 p.m. in the Legion
Hall. .
The Belmore Women's Institute.
will be having their 90th Anniver-
sary on Oct. 12th at 2ip.m.
The committee was appointed to
be inicharge of the lunch booth and
dinner at the Craft Festival
Maimie Roulston gave an excel-
. lent report, of the. District Annual
which was held recently in Ripley.
• Our Institute is having a bus strip
to Blyth on August 25th to see the
play "Bouncing Back," .
The roll call was answered by
each one naming a .successful
project initiated by the Women s
Institute. •
Ruth Langen introduced our guest
speaker, Jane 'Brady Miltenburg.
She is a graduate of Centralia Col-
lege. For 10 years she was a
dietitian at Guelph General
Hospital.
While there she became interested
in Wellington WSA (Women in
Support of Agriculture). She is the
wife of Ben Miltenburg of Ashfield
Township and , mother of two
children.
-She gave an ,interesting and
educational report of the work done
by the WSA. ,
Currently, she is the editor of the
Ontario Farm, Women's Network
Newsletter.
She was thanked by June
Gilchrist, and presented with a gift.
June also gave the courtesies.

Irene Haldenby, served refresh-
ments and a social time was en-
joyed.

Although the weather was not the
best, drives in the country were
scenic and beautiful. Jim and Mary
Boyle and Elsie Houston took care
of things while they were away.

Apartments want to wish Vera
Purvis and Art Ernewein, who are
patients in Wingham Hospital,
better health so they will be able to
join them in their card games.
Relatives from Chicago, Detroit,
Strathroy, Toronto, and Sarnia
visited with Jessie, Bill and Dorothy
Johnston, and attended the funeral
of Margie (Mrs. Finlay) MacDonald
of Ashfield at the MacKenzie and
McCreath's on Thursday.
Sympathy is extended to Margaret
Conye& and other members of the
family in the passing of Ted Col-
lyer at Pinecrest Manor on Sunday.
There were five tables of shoot at
the drop in centre.
Ladies' High was Wendy Ritchie..
Ladies' Low was Grace Gibson.
Mens' High was Cliff Menary. Low
Man was Andy Scott. Most shoots'

a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London for care and treatment. He
underwent surgery during the week.

Church held its 131st Anniversary
service on May 29 with services in
both the morning and evening. '
Rev. Bruce Aitken and a guest
minister were at both services.
Susan Lindsay was the •soloist in
the morning. and the ladies' trio
from the South Kinloss
congregation sang in the evening.
After, refreshments were served
and a time of fellowship was en •
joyed.
