Hackett's Farm Equipment RR #2 LUCKNOW 529-7914 The ,,e(1 the BRUCE Generations Day successful event A sincere thanks is made to our supportive community. Firstly, our Grade 8's enjoyed a valuable ex- perience job shadowing various people in the area. This learning opportunity is a worthwhile project where our students get a hands-on feel about the world of work. Without interested community involvement, we are unable to provide such op- portunities. Secondly, we would like to express our appreciation to those who have collected grocery tapes for the school. In these tough finan- cial times, programs like these really • help us. Thanks also to Knechtel's and Zehr's for spon- soring these programs. Rachael Bushell, who won the Senior Bruce County Elementary Public Speaking competition, was invited to say her speech at the Bruce County Board of Education's 25th Anniversary dinner, held in Underwood on May 11th. Rachael survived a power black- out during her speech presentation and delighted her audience with her very entertaining, humorous• speech on "Hair." Sonja Dunn, an author ' and storyteller, delighted . the Junior students at LCPS with her chants, PROPANE Au o, Barbecue &all propane uses . Sonja + Dunn = Fun Sonja, Sonja took what you've done, You've gone and made poetry fun. Poetry Yuck! Poetry Reeks We thought poetry was only, for geeks Thanks alot for spoiling it all! We liked our poetry when it was dull. Then one day our teacher read Primary Rhymerry, dull poetry was dead. We like ,how you created a. poem from a theme Colors, tood and witches who scream. One of our favorites was about a "cold." We could identify with the facts that you told. Mark . Thurman's pictures were really great . We'd be sure to give him ten out of eight. • How did he ever draw such stuff? -His dog Jay sounds and. looks really tough. • • Birthdays, friends,• clock talk, keeping fit 'All of these poems with. our class were a hit. Your silly words filled our minds Your poetry is really one of a kind. Sonja, Sonja look what you've done Thank -you for making poetry fun.. The annual Scholastic two• for the price of one• book sale is now in progress at the school. library. Anyone is welcome to come and purchase books for summer redoing. Staff and students have. worked hard for the past 2 years on STAR, the problem solving approach to . conflict management. The next important step is to learn mediation skills. When a problem cannot be solved between two people a . neutral 3rd person becomes involved. This person does not solve the problem but helps. the disputants to resolve their conflict' using .their own -solutions. • Grade 7 students have been trained in mediation and volunteers from that group will help primary i students to resolve 'their problems peacefully. These students are not responsible for playground super- vision in any way, but will be available for primary students in conflict who would like help to solve minor problems. In the fall you will see the Luck - now Central Problem Solvers out on the yard, using their mediation skills. Many thanks to . the United Church for providing a room for our training sessions with the Grade 7 students. It is our hope that all Grade 7 students will have increased their communication and problem solving, skills through this process. These life skills are important outcomes listed in the Ministry of Education Common Curriculum. • A little wet weather on our final elective day, Tuesday, May 26th couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of our elective leaders ' and par- ticipants! All students had the opportunity to .select an .elective session from .our all time favorites, such as Photography, Calligraphy, Cake Decorating, T-shirt. Painting, Puppet Making, Bowling, Gingerbread Houses, Flower Arranging 'and Horse Care. New offerings included the highly popular Baseball, Child Carp and Candy Flowers.. Many thanks to the talented elec-1 tive leaders who have helped our students to encounter new ;interests • and learn about cooperation and excellence this Year.
