•The Kincardine Canada Employ -
merit . Centre for Students opened
last week and placement officer
Karah Kirkland advises students to
register with the centre as soon as
possible. .
Karah said there have been lots of
students at the centre to register for
employment.
• In addition, Karah and fellow
placement officer Sandy Maclntire
have held a lunch-hour registration
at the Kincardine and District Sec-
ondary School.
In total, they have had about 100
students register so far in the
region.
Karah said it's looking good for
students this year.
Last year,' the centre had place-
ments for 675 students in the
Kincardine., Walkerton and Hanover
area.
The centre serves students and
employers in the Ki;.:ardine,.
Tiverton, Ripley and . icknow
areas.
Karah is anticipating a lot of
summer positions for students
through stores, restaurants and other
businesses as well as many "odd
jobs" such as haying which last for
shorter periods of time. •
"I'm excited about it," she said.
Positions available last week
included public relations, child
workers, grounds keepers and activ-
ity planners.
.They 'are aiming to find even
more placements for students and
provide more . services to both
employers and students.
Karah recommends students call
or come by on a regular basis to
check what jobs are available.
The jobs are .posted at the office
at 859 Queen Street. After hours,
students can call 519-881-0360.
With a touch-tone phone, students
can access a list of jobs posted in
the area: •
In addition to finding jobs, stu-
dents can get help with resumes and
find advice on interviews and over
letters at, the centre.
There is also literature available
about ' government programs,
OSS AP and other services students
may need.
The placement officers are
tentatively planning several activ-
ities to promote the centre including
a beach volleyball . tournament,
barbecue and Canada Day window
painting.
"We want to get involved with a
lot of the community events in
Kincardine."
The centre is located at 859
Queen Street and is open Monday
to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
