The results are all in• for the an-
nual April campaign for the Cancer
Society with a final total of
$6,767.10 showing a very suc-
cessful canvass.
On behalf of the Canadian Cancer
Society, Bruce County Unit, we
extend our thanks to the generous
support , of our many volunteers,
canvassers and the response from
the general public.
:Over half of our total money
donated came from areas covered
by the Karishea and Holyrood
Women's Institutes, the Highway
86 east and west canvassers and by
Marion Lowry who° organized the
Lakeshore area including Point Clark
and the southern part of Huron
Township. Lucknow is canvassed
by more than 40 volunteers.

Alzheimer society meeting
The Alzheimer Society of Huron
County is holding its annual public
meeting to help answer .questions
from people who are trying to
provide the best care to people with
Alzheimer's disease.
The meeting will deal with an
"Assessment of Confusion in the
Elderly."
The speaker will be Mary Baw-
den, R.N., . M.S.C.N., the team
leader of the South Wester Regional
Geriatric' Outreach Programme of
St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
The society is hoping to reach as
many people in the area as possible.
The meeting will be held on June
8 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the
Goderich . Township Community
Centre in Hotsmville.
New show at museum
A new show at the Bruce County
Museum and Archives . in
Southampton features the work of
Edward' S. Curtis.
Curtis was a devoted; highly
motivated and preserving ..
photographer twtio recognized that,
by the end . or the 19th century,
Native life in North America had
been seriously ,'weakened by the
•expanding influence of European
culture: •
• He resolved to seek out, record
and . preserve on film the remaining
vestiges of traditional ways. Curtis
selected, assembled and edited into
20 volumes of Photogravures and
20 volumes of text, entitled "The
North American Indian." The Royal
Ontario Museum !has taken 38 of
these photogravures from the
volumes and reproduced them with
travelled in a covered wagon from
the • Northwest Coast of ' British
Columbia to the southwest corner
of the United States capturing mag-
nificent images with cumbersome
view:cantera, processing film in the
covered wagon.
The best .of Curtis' life work was
as much truth to the original as
possible,, using the advanced tech-
nplogy and .materials of modem
photography..
The themes include portraits,
!landscapes, forms of shelter, food.
gathering, costume and' dress
Included is a 90 minute .video en-
titled "The Shadow Catcher."
The show opens June 1 and runs
until June 30th. It is included with
the general admission or is free for
members. Summer hours are: Mon-
day to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5
p.m.

The ever changing shoreline of
Lake Huron, from rugged and crag-
gy to gently rolling, sandy dunes, is
the subject for an anthology by
Bruce County writers.
Brucedale Press, a new publishing
company opened by Anne Judd of
Bruce Township, 'is launching its
first venture with the anthology on
Lake Huron.
The book is intended to showcase
area -literary talent and interested
writers. are invited to submit there
best work.
Participation is open to people
who reside in Bruce County at least
four months a year. Students at the
secondary school level and beyond
are welcome to submit. • .
Fiction, non-fiction and poetry,
including previously published work •
will be considered..
Guidelines are available at local
library branches. Deadline for sub-
missions is June 30.
Kincardine author, Corinne
Robertson -Brown will be editing ,
the book.
Robertson -Brown and Judd, as
well as other Bruce County writers
from the area get together once -a
week to inspire, encourage and help
each other with their many literary
endeavors. They encourage other
interested writers to join them.
Patio lights
are stolen
Eight strings .of patio lights,
valued at $150, were stolen from
a Wickham Cove cottage last
week.
The cottage is'owned by. Blake
Devitt of RR 2, Ripley.
