Gun issues need
modification

management," said Pegg.
Although gun control is a federal
issue, Huron MPP Paul Klopp. said
it should work with the province.
"There's been a lot of .talk and
pressure about the. , issues. There
needs to be some modification. This
issue isn't political, it's about
people," said Klopp.
Bevan Brown of Wingham, one
of the organizers of the event,
asked Steckle if there was a par-
ticular group that was pushing for
the stiffer regulations or was it
coming from Justice Minister Allan
Rock.
"If he had his way, there wouldn't
be any guns," said Steckle.
Steckle said he invited Rock t
Thursday's meeting but Rock had
prior commitments. However,
Steckle said he would take the
many concerns to him.
Jeff Payne, another organizer of
the meeting asked if anyone who
illegally imports ' guns into the
country could be charged with
being an accessory to every crime
committed with those guns.
"It has been an issue which needs
to be addressed," said Klopp.
Murray Elston, Bruce MPP was
supposed to be aft the meeting but
did not attend due to prior com-
mitments.

Reform Party says the government

Minristry gives separate
school boards $500,000
The Ministry of Education and
Training is giving Ontario's
sepa4•ate school boards $500,000
over two years to Modify cur-
riculum to meet their religious
needs.. N
The boards have formed , a
Catholic Curriculum Co-operative..
to share the cost and workload of
reviewing ministry courses, adap-
ting them to Catholic values and
helping boardsput programs in the
classroom.
The province -wide venture means
even small boards or ones that have
had staff cutbacks will be able to
work on and use the program. ,
Bill Parent, of the Bruce -Grey
separate Board, at the board's May
24 meeting, said the project is "e-
xciting" because it allows individual
boards to become specialists in cer-
tain areas, while using technology
to share information and learn what
other boards are doing.
Estimates put the total cost of the
project at $12 , million, funded by
the provincial grant and user fees.
Parent couldn't estimate the local
board's share, but predicted it will
be an "efficient and effective" way
to develop curriculum suited to the
Catholic system.
Parent also said the project will be
scheduled "to be sure that teachers
are'given time to 'absorb all the cur-
riculum initiatives that are coming
this way".
Separate school board
shows balanced budget
The 1993 auditor's report for the
Bruce -Grey separate school board
shows a balanced budget and a low
level of debt.
"There are no surprises here," said
chair Bill Zettel of the annual
auditor's report.
Business superintendent Paul
Serre, at the board's May 24
meeting, said the board owes
$176,000 in long term debt, but will
have that paid by ' 1996.
After that date, Serre said, "all our
funds go to the system",
The auditor's report shows $3.6
million earmarked in various
reserve funds that allow the
separate board to replace equipment
and carry out projects without bor-
rowing money and paying interest.
The report also noted the board ad-
ministers trust funds worth
$448,000. Those funds were
donated and designated for scholar-
ships and bursaries. Last year,
$30,000 was awarded to students
who qualified under the terms set
out by trust fund donors.
