Local outlet offers chilled products
BUSINESS BEAT
by Pat Livineft►n
If you shop at the local LCBO
outlet, on Willoughby. Street, you
will have nouced a drastic change
in the interior.
Recent renovations have given the
business ' a much more pleasing
visual appearance and also incor-
porated various additions to meet
Consumer demand. •
Chris . Layton, LCBO media
relations co-ordinator in Toronto,
says they became "engaged in a
program in 1993 to take com-
bination stores (liquor and beer) in
key areas and add a cold room.".
Consumers at thdLucknow outlet
can now enjoy cold beer•stored in a
very. large cooler facility incor-
porated in the southeast corner of
the building. Tho self -serve unit
contains all 'brands carried by the
•store. .The unit is built With slanted
shelving so' that when one case
removed another -falls into place.
There is • also a' separate
refrigerated display case holding
various chilled wines. And coming
in the 'future •is' i "chiller" for shelf
wines. You make -your purchase,
place the• bottle of wine in Lhe
chiller and within 'minutes the
product is chilled through:
Layton. says many of their stores
were very old • and in ' need. of
refacing to make them.more interes-
ting and appealing for the con-
sumers. The local outlet has been
organized better, has cleaner sig-
nage and wider aisles for easier
access.
During the last three to four
years, Layton says the strategy has
been to become more "customer
driven" adding more in the. way of
service.
The Lucknow outlet is one of
around 80 combination stores in the
province.
LCBO employees Wayne Cranston and Brenda Christie, along
with Bill Stephenson, manager, stand in front of the recently
installed cold storage unit for beer. Other renovations to the
store have -mac a the interior more appealing to consumers. (Pat
