Fie Wees blast Goderich, 11-0
After a week's lay-off, the Pee
Wee B team travelled to Goderich
for the last game of regular season
play. Again this team didn't provide
much of a challenge 'as Lucknow
rolled all over them with a 11 to 0
score.
An injury to Nathan Knorr caused
anxious moments as the ambulance
attendants removed him off the ice.
We are glad to hear Nathan will
soon be back in the line up.
Scoring for Lucknow was Daryl
Aitchison with five goals and four
assists, Richard Walke with three
,goals and one assist, Chris Tabor
with one goal and three assists, Jeff
Havens and Jason Pritchard with
ope and one, and Jeff Cranston,
Mark Meriam and John VanDiepen-
beek each with an assist.
On Sunday night, Lucknow was
back in Goderich for an"exhibition
game against the Canadian Tire
Selects, a group higher then we
normally would play.
Goderich took the lead first but
Lucknow quickly tied it up when R.
Walke picked up D. Aitchison
rebound. Goderich regained the lead
but before the end of the first Luck -
now again evened the score when J.
Havens hit the far top corner, as-
sisted by Nick Mann.
In the second, Lucknow scored
twice. The first on a passing play
from Walke to Aitchison and again
when after a scramble out front,
Mann lifted the puck over . the
diving Goderich goalie.
In the third, Goderich fought
back. Strong defence and excep-
tional goal tending by Lucknow
stopped them time after time but at
the six minute mark, Goderich
'scored on a power. play to come
within one. With a minute
remaining in the game, and the face
off deep in Lucknow's end,
Goderich pulled their goalie and
with only five seconds left on the
clock, tied the game.
Final score Lucknow 4, Goderich
4.
Junior C league may expand
by Jim Brown
The Western Junior 'C' Hockey
League could have as many as six
teams for the 1994-95 season.
A group of junior hockey en-
thusiasts in Kincardine is hoping to
enter a team in the league next
season. Organizer Doug Kennedy
said,"everything is very positive for
getting a team for next season."
' .Meanwhile, the coaches of the
Wingham Ironmen and . Brussels
Bulls indicated a sixth team in the
league will be beneficial to both the
players and the fans.
Kennedy said the team has al-
ready got ice time for next year -
Friday evenings - for home games
as well as practice time in Tiverton.
He said the ice time is time that
was held by the senior team, until it'
folded. just prior to the 1993-94
season.
Kennedy added it will depend on
the league whether or not they can
maintain the Friday night ice time,
or have to change ice lime with
another group. '
He added that an 'executive has
been elected and a manager has
been named. Doug Dunlop is .the
president and Kennedy. the vice-
president. Darrin Maurer, a f6rmer
manager of the senior team, is the
manager of the junior squad. He
added that a coach will be named in
early February and then the team
can get down to scouting players
for next season..

.planned for April with a softball
tournament scheduled for June.
Kennedy said there are three or
four players from Kincardine al-
ready playing in the league this
year, but those teams will have to
sign a release .in order for them to.
skate with Kincardine next year.
Kennedy said whether or not the
team will be called the Canucks -
the name of the team when it was
last in the league will depend on a
contest being held by team officials
in the town's schools.
"We arevery optimistic about
getting into the league for 1994-
95," said Kennedy. "The league is
looking for teams."
Wingham Ironmen coach Bill
Brown and Brussels Bulls coach
Scott Pettigrew both said the ad-
dition of Kincardine will be
beneficial to the league.
"This season, with only five
teams, we play each .other' eight
times," said Brown. "The animosity
builds up during the year."
He said . another- team in the
league will be better for the fans
because of the extra variety.
Brown said with Kincardine back
in the league, the Ironmen will have
to improve their scouting of
players. He added with the other
teams in the league will also be
affected by Kincardine returning in
terms of players from that area of
- the province. •
Pettigrew said even though the
Bulls have a couple of players from
the Port Elgin area, most of the
team's scouted' players are from
south of the village -- Seaforth,
Milverton, Mitchell and Listowel.
He added they've had success with
players from the Palmerston and
Clifford areas.
"They will be a definite benefit to
the league," he said. "The players
and the fans get tired of seeing the
same players all the time."
The Brussels coach said the
people involved in rejuvenating the
junior team in Kincardine are
"strong hockey people?' He added
that Kincardine is a good hockey,
community and the team should be
an asset to the town.
Both Brown and. Pettigrew said
the, Kincardine arena will be one of
the better facilities to,play'in.
