The Lucknow Sentinel, 1994-01-12, Page 15Novices play Mildmay twice The Lucknow Novice A team matched up twice with Mildmay this past week. Each team was victorious in the opposing arena, oddly enough. On Tuesday night, Lucknow hung on for a 5 to 4 win when they visited Mildmay. The opposition display strong abilities during the first two periods. Ricky Andrew opened the scoring early in the game with a rebound from Jeff McNee. Bob Raymond, with an assist from Tyler Hamilton and Mark Hackett, put Lucknow ahead by two. By the end of the period, Mildmay had tied it up. Hackett and. Hamilton set up a nice play for Raymond; only to have Mildmay .come back to tie the game. During third ' period action, Mildmay quickly took the lead. It didn't look too good for Lucknow, until Hackett made good on a set up by Hamilton and Raymond. With less than 90 seconds to go, Hamilton found his way past the Mildmay goalie and scored the' winning goal. On Saturday, Mildmay visited Lucknow and appeared to have kept their strength up from .the start of the week. • They came out strong again early in the period and hung on for a 6 to 4 victory. Raymond opened the scoring for Lucknow on a'rebound by Hackett, only to have Mildmay tie it up. Early in the second Hackett set up Raymoncl for his second goal. Two minutes' later, Tim Eadie fired a shot in from the blue one and McNee tipped in the rebound to pull ahead 3 to 1. Mildmay responded with the next three goals to take the lead in the third. At 10:08, Raymond scored his hat trick with a high shot assisted. by Hamilton to tie the see -saw game. Not 30 seconds later, Mildmay scored the go ahead goal and in the last minute scored again in an empty net. Honorable mentions this past week to goaltender Johnston who made some great glove saves Satur- day and the line of Raymond, Hamilton and Hackett for ac- cumulating 23 points. i Atoms ; see tourney action The Luci@now Atom A's saw weekend tournament action in Clif- ford. The first game was played against an , evenly matched Thamesford team. The , fust two' periods ended scoreless. The pace sped up in the 'third' as Thamesford opened the scoring and Lucknow matched .` them, when' Brian -Stanley scored on a pass from. Russel Mann and Jordan Hamilton. The remainderof the period was back and forth. Lucknow's second goal came off the stick of J. Hamilton on a pass from R. Mann anti?Dennis Andrew., Thamesford managed one more marker but Lucknow held them off for the rest of the game: Chris Wainwright scored the game winner late in the third, as- sisted by Steve Hare -and. Adam Chilton., Game 2 • ,Game two was played against a very strong Dorchester squad: They continued to, chalk. up goals. during the game as all Lucknow's efforts to stop them failed. Paddy Lyon robbed their goalie of 'a shut out when he broke loose and rued one upstairs. Final score 8 to 1 for:Dorchester. Novice. B play Teeswater Teeswaterdoubled up on the Lucknow „Novice B team on Dec. 28, sending the local squad home with a 6 to 3 defeat. Graham Cook opened the scoring in the fust period, with assists from Jesse Johnston. and Derek Quinlan. Following Teeswater's goal, Lucknoyv went ahead again when Quinlan dented the twine with help' from Johnston and Cook. Teeswater tied the game before the period ended. '-Teeswater took command of the second period, scoring four goals. Lucknow's Quinlan managed to score one more in the third, again assisted by Johnston and Cook. Lucknow vs Ripley On Saturday, Lucknow played a strong game in Ripley, with David Cameron scoring Lucknow's only goal, in the first period. Quinlan was credited with the assist. Ripley tied the game in period two and added the winning goal" in period three. • Lucknow came close to tieing the game late in the third, but the goal was waved off. Final score Ripley 2, Lucknow 1. Juveniles down Paisley The Paisley Juveniles visited Lucknow on Jan 8.. Allan K:kkert dressed for the net, while Keith Todd took on a not AO .familiar position as a.forward. Lucknow came out flyinf and took their first win of 1994 with a 5 to 2 score. At the four minute mark of play, Scou Rintoul scored from Darryl Gibson and Steve Adams. This fust goal gave the team a lift and they aritied two more before the fu:.;.. period .ended to take a 3 to 0 lead., Warren Andrew scored from Chris Humphrey, while Stan Kik- kert added the third: During the second period, of- ficials called a very tight game to keep things under control. Paisley ,lost more players to add to their frustration; They managed one goal in the • second, while Lucknow's Warren Andrew and Matt Drennan each added another to give Luck - now a5to1lead atthe end oftwo periods. Paisley managed to score in period three when Lucknow was on a short-handed shift. Lucknow's netminder ,Allan Kikkert worked hard to keep Paisley off the board. .With only three regular season games. left, Lucknow hopes to con- tinue their winning ways. Less penalty minutes would be a factor to this end. Courtney defends Bantams • The Lucknow Bantam "A's" fust game for 1994 saw them go down to defeat 7 to 4 at the hands of Mildmay. Ryan Courtney dressed against the Mildmay offence. The first period saw Mildmay score three goals to take',a 3 to 0 lead. In the second, Jeff,Porter scored from. Stuart Rintoul and Ed Courtney. Jeff added a second goal before Mildmay added two more to take a 5 to 2 lead at the, end of period two. Lucknow tried desperately to catch up, but time ran out. Jeff Porter scored all four Luck - now goals. Lucknow is still missing Glenn Ferguson, who is out with a broken bone in the hand.
