HURON PLOWMEN
RECEIVE AWARDS
Ten Huron County plowmen
plus our Queen of the Furrow,
Lori Consitt of R.R. 1, Varna,
competed at the IPM in Stirling,
near Belleville (September 16 to
20).
Paul Dodds, 19, of R.R. 1,
Seaforth won the Junior Cham-
pion Tractor Plowman trophy,
enabling him to compete in Quebec
at the 1987 Canadian Junior
Championship Plowing Contest.
Paul also received $300 and a
trophy for winning his two -furrow
class with contestants aged 16 to
19. He is a first-year student at the
University of Guelph and using the
two-year scholarship he won at the
IPM last September.
Jeff McGavin, 18, of R.R. 4,
Walton also had an excellent week
at the IPM and brought home the
Reserve Junior Champion Award.
He also received $200.
Two other local youths, William
Fotheringham, 17, and Murray
Townsend, 15, both of R.R. 4,
Seaforth, each won a two-year On-
tario Plowmen's Association
Scholarship worth $2,500 at one of
the Ontario colleges of agricultural
technology (including the Universi-
ty of Guelph).
The scholarships are offered to
two IPM contestants between the
ages of 15 and 19, who have not
previously won the award, with the
most points in their division.
The Huron County Plowing
Match was postponed due to wet
conditions, but everyone will have
a chance to watch or participate on
October 4 at Murray Cardiff's
farm near Brussels.0

ACTION DEFERRED
The temporary deferral of ac-
tion against farmers in financial
trouble under three provincial pro-
grams will continue until the
federal government lifts its
moratorium on Farm Credit Cor-
poration foreclosures or until
February 28, 1987, whichever
comes first.
