NEW BARN AT UNITED BREEDERS INC.
Lowell Lindsay, director of sire development at United Breeders Inc.,
points out that the company's new complex is designed "for the
comfort of the bulls and the safety of the men who work with them."
There are 83,000 screw nails
holding together the new barn at
the United Breeders Inc. facilities
on Highway 6 just north of
Guelph.
That was just one of the
statistics noted when the press
visited the United Breeders com-
plex recently. Because of the rules
necessary to keep the new barn free
of disease, that visit marked the
first and last time it will be open to
the public, said General Manager
Wilbur Shantz.
Shantz also said that United
Breeders Inc. is "committed to a
very aggressive young sire -proving
program." Selection pressure is
very critical, with only one in eight
young bulls selected last year.
The new barn contains 80 bull
pens and a 13 -pen quarantine area.
The machinery used for feeding
and cleaning will not be inter-
changed with that used in the main
facility.
