AT SHEEP FOCUS
The Ontario Sheep Marketing
Agency's 9th annual Sheep Focus
'86 is over for another year with
approximately 2,000 producers
and consumers attending the two-
day event.
The Breed Club shows and sales
were well consigned and prices
were generally up over past years.
The Champion Suffolk Ram
was consigned by Clare Bauman of
West Montrose and sold for $1,600
to Norma and Ray Egginton of
Rockwood. The Champion Ewe
was consigned by Bill McTaggart
of Guelph and sold to Jan and
Peter Burtch of Dunscaith Farm,
Omemee, for $1,200. The Reserve
Suffolk Ewe was consigned by Reg
Ashton of Hanover and sold for
$1,025 to John Leask of Seagrave.
The 23 ewes in the sale sold for an
average of $389, up $122 from last
year and the six rams averaged
$717, up $244 from last year.
The Dorset Club show and sale
averaged $260, with rams averag-
ing $331 and ewes $221. The
Grand Champion Ewe and Grand
Champion Dorset Overall was con-
signed by Driscoll Bros. of Elora
and sold for $450 to Ray
Cruickshank of Princeton. The
Champion Ram of John Holland
of Kincardine sold for $800 to
Agriculture Canada.
The Hampshire Association
show and sale had 20 head and
sold for an average of $263. The
Champion Ewe was consigned by
Lloyd Ayre of Bowmanville and
sold for $450 to Larry and Karen
Lynn of Midland.
The Champion Ram sold for
$425 to Paul Vigneux of Rolling
Thunder Farm in Lakefield. It was
consigned by Driscoll Bros. of
Elora.
The Southdown Club's 2nd an-
nual show and sale did very well
with the 15 ewes averaging $301
and the six rams at $252. The
Champion Ram was consigned by
John Holland of Kincardine and
sold for $260 to Edna Blackburn
and Steven Smith of Caledon East.
The Champion Ewe was consigned
by Jo -Ann and Hugh Todd of
Lucknow and sold for $410 to
11 -year-old Peter Payne of
Jerseyville. Peter also bought the
highest selling ewe from Fred Bell.
