WHAT'S NEW?
Controls weeds
Galex, a new liquid herbicide
from Ciba-Geigy Canada Ltd., is
now available for controlling most
broadleaf weeds and annual
grasses.
Research shows us that triazine-
resistant weeds like lamb's -
quarters or redroot pigweed are
present at some level in one-third
of soybean fields, says Ciba-Geigy
Product Manager, Bob McNaughton.
Also, he says that nightshade is
continuing its spread into the non-
traditional soybean areas.
Galex controls these broadleaf
weeds, including triazine-resistant
types, and provides control of
American nightshade and annual
grasses. Growers can control all of
these weeds with one pre -emergent
application — no mixing, no mess.
Galex also provides good crop
safety and can be used on
metribuzin-sensitive varieties.
The product is available in
10 -litre plastic jugs in limited
quantities for 1986. There will be
enough for about 5,000 hectares or
12,000 acres.

Drive-through Gate
Gallagher Power Fencing
Systems is introducing a drive-
through electrified gate. Called the
Hot Rod Gate, the product was
developed by farmers who were
bothered by having to continually
stop, open the gate, drive through,
close the gate, and by the ensuing
problems that arose when gates
were not closed properly.
The Hot Rod Gate features a
fibreglass rod, electrified through
its conducting carbon coating,
which can swing in any direction,
even downward, yet will always
automatically return to its closed
position, even on a windy day. It
can also be pivoted and locked into
the vertical position for completely
free access through the gateway.
The Gallagher Hot Rod gate can
be quickly attached without tools
