What's the Farm
Labour Pool?
The Canada Labour Pool
system is a nation-wide
agricultural employment referral
agency funded by the Federal
Government. It is designed to bet-
ter organize the Canadian
agricultural labour market, and to
provide greater stability in the sup-
ply of farm labour. This specializ-
ed service assists both the worker
and the farm employer.
In most areas, CFLPs are run by
local peopie with farming ex-
perience who know the problems
of the agricultural community. It is
their responsibility to be familiar
with agricultural labour re-
quirements in their area. Through
this knowledge, they are better
able to place workers quickly and
effectively with the farmers.
Workers are asked to sign
agreements with individual
farmers, and to observe normal
terms and conditions of employ-
ment.
The Pool Manager is responsible
for identifying and filling the de-
mand for seasonal, relief and per-
manent workers in his/her area
through contact with farm
organizations and farmers. Since it
is the role and function of the
Pools to bring better organization
to the farm labour market, it is im-
portant that good communication
links be established and maintain-
ed between Pool personnel and the
farm employers and farm workers
they serve.
CFLPs now operate in most ma-
jor agricultural areas, and are
organized according to local needs.
They offer communities a year-
round service, supplemented by
branch or seasonal offices as re-
quired.
For further information concer-
ning the services offered by the
Pools, contact the Canada Farm
Labour Pool, Owen Sound,

Head
protection
It is recommended that head
protection be worn at all times by
farm workers. Specific agricultural
jobs that call for head protection
include building work, operating
and repairing machinery, felling
and trimming trees, shuttling in
