The Rural Voice, 1986-04, Page 37FARM NEWS base for economic growth. Farmers will share at least part of that," he says. But because of the conditions affecting agriculture, there's really not much good news for farmers. "I still have some feelings of confidence however, because I don't feel there are farmers anywhere who've shown an ability to become efficient and productive in the face of economic adversity (more than we have), he says. Nixon says he does feel depress- ed about farm prospects, and wouldn't like the thought of rais- ing a family of four on just a farm income, but he does see some positive things in Ontario agriculture. "When you look at the problems we have, they pale in significance when you look at them on a world stage."❑PC Science Centre hosts food exhibit Food — the exciting exhibition at the Ontario Science Centre — will have a definite agricultural flavour. It will allow visitors to ex- plore every facet of food from its source and production to its inges- tion and digestion. This world-class exhibition, ex- pected to draw more than a million visitors, will run until Nov. 2 and includes exhibits and programs to encourage visitors to get involved. In late spring, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will open an outdoor exhibit that includes a barn and other displays illustrating the complexities of modern agriculture. Visitors to the ministry's exhibit will be able to see a variety of animals, including laying hens, a nursing sow and beef cow with calf. There will also be regular demonstrations of cows being milked by machine, baby chickens being sexed and chicks being hatched in an incubator. "Many people today are at least one generation removed from the farm and don't understand the complexities of the modern agricultural business." Riddell said the ministry's ex- hibit will also include a series of graphic displays on subjects such as plant propagation, integrated pest management, and energy pro- duction using animal waste. 1 For Your Planting Needs see BAKER'S NURSERY Supplying you with: • Complete Line of Nursery Stock • Ornamental & Flowering Shrubs • Spreading Junipers • Upright Junipers • Shade Trees • Fruit Trees • Hedging BAKER S NURSERY BayLeid R R 2 BAYPELO Va na n rea r tree ro t a , ce Tara xlrut & p ne BAKER'S NURSERY RR #2 Bayfield 519-482-9995 (closed Sundays) K.G.
