Petrolia. Runner-up in the animal
confinement building category was
another dairy facility constructed
by Schafer Structures and Renova-
tions Inc., Shakespeare for
Dietrich Farms Ltd. of Tavistock.
A special aware of merit was
presented to the firm of John
Ernewein Limited, Walkerton for
a new dairy barn on the farm of
Hugh Van Hout, Arthur.
In the horse facility category,
Frey Bros. Ltd. of Hawkesville
submitted the winning entry for a
stable they constructed on Harold
Reese's farm near Breslau. Frey
Bros. Ltd. also took first place in
the Commercial Service class with
a shop constructed for Reist
Welding, Elmira. They were
runner-up in the Commercial Mer-
chandizing category for the seed
warehouse built at Woodrill Farms
Ltd., Guelph. The Freys rounded
out their list of awards with a
Special Award of Merit for the
traditional barn construction on
the farm of John Ingle,
Rockwood, Ontario.
In the commercial merchandiz-
ing category, Fred Groenestege
Construction Ltd., Sebringville
constructed a winner for Larry
Doell Flooring of Wartburg.
Groenestege was also runner-up in
the commercial service class with
his entry for a building for Nuhn
Welding, Sebringville.
Presented with a Special Award
of Merit was Detailed Farm
Buildings Ltd., Rockton for a
novel building constructed on the
property of Hugh Anderson,
Campbellville.
Paul Good, CJK Goodman Inc.
of Fisherville won the General
Farm Building category for a CA
apple storage built on the farm of
Otto Grau, Simcoe.
The Builder of the Year Award
began three years ago to recognize
excellence in the farm building in-
dustry. Entries are judged on the
quality of workmanship, innova-
tion in design and use of materials,
the suitability and efficiency of the
facility for its intended use and the
aesthetic appearance of the
building in relation to its surround-
ings. Judges for the competition
were Prof. Jack Pos and Al
Singleton, both of the School of
Engineering, University of
Guelph.
