B.J. CLEAVE
Barry Cleave, poultry breeder, artist, 4H leader, and
teacher proudly displays the first -prize ribbon he
won in 1980 at the American Poultry and Bantam
Association's Ohio National Poultry Show. This is
one of the largest poultry shows in the U.S. Over
11,000 birds are in the competition. Cleave won the
award twice, in 1980 and 1981. His Bantam Partridge
Wyandotte won the award, one of three breeds he
raises; the two others are The White Chanticleer
and the New Hampshire Bantam. "Many people
scoff at the fancy poultry breeders, but if it wasn't
for them, many of the valuable genetic blood lines,
needed to develop modern poultry breeds, would be
lost," he says.
