Farm faces
Huron County awards three annual
scholarships to outstanding Universi-
ty of Guelph students from Huron.
The scholarship winners this year are:
George Alton of R.R. 7, Lucknow,
an associate diploma student with a
72.4 per cent average; Edward Oke of
R.R. 3, Exeter, a B.Sc.(Agr.) student
with a 70.9 per cent average; and
Murray DeVos of R.R. 4, Wingham,
a B.Sc.(Agr.) student with a 79.4 per
cent average.
The Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food has appointed
a swine specialist to work in Huron,
Perth, and Oxford counties. Ed Bar-
rie, who holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in
agriculture from the University of
Guelph, will be working out of the
Stratford office. As a member of the
ministry's Animal Industry Branch,
Barrie will coordinate and conduct
swine advisory services in the three
counties.
Ted McCannel, who was the Grey -
Bruce reporter for the Kitchener -
Waterloo Record for more than 30
years, retired a few years ago. Unfor-
tunately, his retirement life was cut
short by his unexpected death in
November. According to Mac
Bolton, Bruce agricultural represen-
tative, Ted was a real champion of
Bruce and its people, and missed very
few farm meetings of significance in
Grey and Bruce.
Carolyn Strang was recently
crowned 1985-86 Bruce County Dairy
Princess at the Annual Holstein Club
Dance in Teeswater. Carolyn, the
daughter of Bill and Barbara Strang,
lives on a dairy farm east of Allen -
ford. She is a Grade 13 student at
West Hill S.S. in Owen Sound.
Ken Bruxer of Huron Tractor, Ex-
eter, won a $700 tool chest as the top,
student in an advanced mechanics;
course at Fanshawe College.
Ken Knox, a 15 -year veteran of the.
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, was.
recently named director of the
ministry's farm products marketing
branch.
Kim Rintoul, 16, of R.R.2, Lucknow
won the Queen's Guineas competi-
tion for Champion Steer at the Royal
Agricultural Winter Fair.
The Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food has appointed
a dairy cattle specialist to work in
Huron, Perth, Waterloo, Peel, Well-
ington. Halton. and York counties.
Janet Ruston assumed the position on
November 4. ❑
