Solving
machinery
problems
Purpose
Encourage farmers and the farm
equipment industry to solve any pro-
blems arising from the sale, service
and safe operation of farm equip-
ment.
Membership
The board reports to the Minister of
Agriculture and Food. Its members
are all actively involved in
agriculture, in marketing or in
manufacturing of farm equipment in
Ontario.
Functions
• Investigate any referred complaint
about farm machinery.
• Hold meetings and hearings
toward resolving any problems
relating to farm equipment under
manufacturer's warranty.
• Develop and administer a volun-
tary Code of Practice.
• Provide education about the pur-
chase, service, and safe operation
of farm equipment.
The Farm Machinery Code
What is it? The Code is a statment
of good business practices.
It is voluntary and administered by
the Ontario Farm Machinery
Board.
It defines the responsibility of cer-
tified distributors and dealers.
How it works. The Code
establishes minimum standards for
Ontario Farm
Machinery Board
farm machinery transactions,
repair parts supply, service and
warranty.
Distributors and dealers who agree
to comply to the Code are certified
by the Board.
Certified distributors and dealers
agree to co-operate with the
Board.
Recommendations to Farmers
• Select and size equipment to suit
your operation.
• Pre-test equipment for suitability
before purchase.
• Understand terms of purchase
(warranty, special terms).
• Obtain a copy of all documents
and agreements signed between
you and vendor.
• Get sufficient technical informa-
tion, pre -delivery check,
operator's manual and operating
instructions before accepting
delivery.
• Deal with a certified dealer.
• Practice preventive maintenance to
reduce breakdowns and downtime.
• Keep a written record of problems
and maintenance schedule of
equipment.
• Contact the Ontario Farm
Machinery Board if you fail to
resolve problems with distributor
or retail dealer.
