the Rainy River Cattlemen's sale will
be transmitted by satellite from the
stockyards at Stratton in the Rainy
River District to the sales rings of
Kitchener and Cargill sales barns.
The sales rings at Kitchener and
Cargill will be equipped with a six-
foot video screen so the buyers in
southern Ontario can view the cattle
being sold as they are offered in
Stratton. The buyers' bids will be in-
stantly transmitted to the auctioneer
in Stratton. There will be buyers in
three locations, thousands of miles
apart, all bidding on the same lot of
cattle.
Gerald Gouliquer, president of the
Rainy River Cattlemen's Association
said this is the twenty-sixth annual
sale their organization has sponsored.
There will be two sales this year, he
said. On September 23 the satellite
sale will be held; about 1500 yearling
cattle will be offered. On October 21
there will be 2000 calves offered for
sale. Buyers will have to travel to
Stratton to participate in this sale; it
will not be televised.
The Stratton Sales yards are served
by CNR rail and has loading facilities
for double -deck trucks.
