That's the word from spokesmen representing these three commodities who addressed farmers at Centralia's crop update day. Fred Bradenburg of the Soybean Growers' Marketing Board told farmers to take precautions in storing corn to ensure profit potential. Because of the expected high yields and low prices, many farmers will store corn this year. Make ar- rangements for storage before harvest, he suggests. There could be a deficiency in elevator storage space this season. Secondly, he encourages farmers to take the time to get a storage receipt. If by chance the elevator declares bankruptcy, you may be in trouble without one. Weigh tickets aren't enough. The troubles with the bankruptcy of McKinley Enterprises prove that farmers may have pro- blems if they don't get a storage receipt. Also, Bradenburg advises, be sure to deal with licensed elevators only. Bradenburg doesn't expect to see high soybean prices this fall because of record crops. "The probability of $8 to $10 beans (per bushel) is not very likely." More farmers are likely to take ad- vantage of the advanced payment op- tion this year because of changes in Revenue Canada's policy, he notes. The altered policy allows a farmer to claim the money when he sells the crop rather than when he receives the advance payment. Fred Lewis of the Ontario Corn Producers' Association sees a record corn harvest shaping up. He expects low prices and encourages farmers to collect the federal subsidy on 95 per 32 THF RURAI VOICE George Jones, from the University of Guelph, says that higher plant populations today, compared with 30 years ago, helps farmers to take best advantage of modern hybrids.
