Error in Technology
It is very enlightening to read a
magazine of the quality of The Rural
Voice, especially the down-to-earth
interviews with local people. As well,
we find the articles to be generally of
high quality and very informative.
As the largest farm income tax
preparer in Ontario, we are always in-
terested in articles dealing with in-
come tax information. It is not our
wish to be critical; however, in the
Farm Advice Section of your August
issue we note that paragraph 5 of
Rigid Tax Rules (Dollar Sense, In-
stitute of Chartered Accountants of
Ontario),page 56, has an error in ter-
minology. The article should read
"Restricted Farm Loss is limited to
the first $2,500 loss, plus 50% of the
difference between $2,500 and $7,500
for a maximum deduction of $5,000.
As our company policy is to supply
farmers with the best possible service
available, we would like to take this
opportunity to congratulate you and
your staff on the fine service offered
by your magazine to the farming
community.

Visiting a dairy farm
in Ethiopia
Last November while visiting my
daughter and her husband in
Ethiopia, I had the privilege to spend
a day with an American veterinarian
who was sent to Ethiopia by an
American Baptist Mission. His home
and compound is on the outskirts of
Addis Ababa where there is a large
wooded area of Australian Eucalyp-
tus trees which are part of a
reforestation project.
In the morning he conducted a
clinic and in the afternoon he had
route which took him to different
dairy farms where he provided
regular supervision for a number
dairy herds. We attended his morn-
ing clinic, which would make a story
in itself. After lunch we got in h '
double cab pick-up and went on the
