PRESSURE: if lowered to increase
in -field traction then it should be in-
creased for road travel or operation
on hard surfaces.
• SAVE TRIPS: every way you can.
A two-way tractor radio can save all
the fuel wasted in unnecessary travel.
It is estimated that tillage operations
consume about 6 per cent of all the
energy used in farm production. Here
then is an excellent opportunity to
conserve energy by working the soil
no deeper than necessary, by avoiding
unnecessary seedbed preparation, by
combining tillage, seeding, herbicide
application and incorporation ac-
tivities every place you can.

Local cook apprentices
Complete with chef's hats and dressed in whites,
three students from Conestoga's Cook Apprentice
Program/Stratford were part of the Pork Congress
kick-off and media day, June 4 in Stratford. They
also participated in outdoor cooking demonstrations
using pork products at the Pork Congress itself. The
Stratford Cook Apprentice Program is a co-
operative endeavour between Conestoga College,
Canada Manpower, and local restaurant employers.
The curriculum extends over two winters of in -school
training and three summers of on-the-job training in
Stratford's kitchens. The students as pictured here
are (from left): Kathy Bell of St. Marys, Terry
Manzo of Stratford, and Robert Smith of Stratford.

stories in the farm publications you
receive too. Energy conservation is
the responsibility of all Canadians
and we, as farmers, can make a
tremendous contribution.
