The Ontario producer gets nothing. We are losing money because we cannot compete with the farmers who receive rich subsidies from the other provinces. We ask for equality and we get the finger instead. Hog production in this province cannot survive under the present system. It will be tough, but we can survive and prosper if we are allowed to compete fairly. If all stabilization programs in the various provinces are terminated, then we can compete on the basis of our ability as farmers. If the other provinces will not withdraw their programs, we must assist our farmers, just as the other provinces are doing, or we will lose them. Without some action the pro- vince of Ontario will lose an industry' that generates 600 -million dollars a year. A modern and efficient industry that produces almost exactly the quantity of pork that is consumed within the province will be crowded out by the rich stabilization programs given to farmers of other provinces. Mr. Wise is wrong to encourage in one province what he attempts to pro- hibit in another. As pork producers, we ask only for equality. Let us com- pete fairly with producers of other provinces. If the rich stabilization payments given in those provinces cannot be stopped, Ontario must match them. The only other choice is to close out all hog production in the province of Ontario. Larry Dillon Clinton Appreciates award I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for the award which I received at graduation (Effective Communications in Agricultural Business Management awarded annually by the Rural Voice magazine to Centralia College graduates). I was honoured to receive the award and have put it to good use. Currently I am working in conjunc- tion with my parents on their hog production and cash crop enterprises and have recently purchased a farm of my own. May I commend The Rural Voice for acknowledging the efforts of Cen- tralia Agribusiness students. It is most encouraging and rewarding to be a recipient of such an award. Scott Utter Norwich
