CFFO meets
with CFFA
Farmers in Ontario and Alberta
have much more in common than
most people ever realize. Members of
the Christian Farmers' Federation of
Alberta (CFFA), recently met with
Ontario farmers from the same
organization to discuss mutual con-
cerns.
CFFA Research and Policy Co-
ordinator John Kolkman told CFFO
members in Woodstock and Guelph
that Alberta and Ontario tend to take
similar positions on red meat sta-
bilization, provincial top loading,
and national quota allocation. One of
the main reasons for their likeness he
said was that "Ontario and Alberta
are both `have' rather than 'have not'
provinces when it comes to agricul-
ture."
Both groups are adamant that new
stabilization programs must have
family farm size maximums on pay
outs, or the programs will worsen
current economic difficulties in
agriculture.
A debt set-aside program has the
support of both groups. Both are in
the midst of further discussion about
details of a set-aside program.
Farm Credit Associations are also
being discussed and promoted in both
federations.
The two groups have decided to
publish a joint quarterly magazine in
1985. Current research efforts on
family farm issues will be featured in
the publication and will receive
greater joint activity.

farmer from the Goderich area,
Huron County, was re-elected vice-
president of the Christian Farmers
Federation of Ontario when the
group gathered in Guelph in
December to reflect on 30 years as a
confessional farm organization. L
