The Rural Voice, 1985-01, Page 9are five participants in Huron and
Perth. Agripress Canada Limited in
Hensall is involved with agri-
computer systems and telecom-
munications. Norse Industries Agri -
products Ltd. of Exeter will be expor-
ting field cultivators, row crop
cultivators, and sprayers. Perth Farm
Systems Limited, Newton, deals in
grain and feed handling equipment,
including storage bins, aeration fans,
and elevator legs. A Brussels com-
pany, Superior Building Systems
Inc., is looking to export materials
for livestock and poultry buildings,
horse stabling, and concrete manure
storage systems. And the fifth local
company involved to date is Twin
Roll Inc. of Gorrie; their products in-
clude automatic feed processing
equipment, roller mills, and hammer
mills. King Grain Limited, which has
r. distribution centre in Listowel,
deals with seed corn, soybeans, seed
gain, corn grits, cornmeal, and flour,
and is also a member company.
Each of these companies has high
hopes for AGREXO. They have in-
vested their faith and $2,000 in this
new company and they expect results.
Stampher says different companies
require different services. King
Grain, for example, only requires
assistance in getting export leads and
they do the follow-up work from
there. On the other hand, a company
such as Perth Farm Systems, which is
relatively new to the export business,
will find a number of services helpful.
Those services include helping
companies to determine the delivered
price of a product. Buyers aren't
usually interested in farm -gate prices,
says Stampher. They want to know
the final price including transporta-

tion and currency exchange. "Once I
know the weight and dimensions of a
product, I can soon figure out the
transportation costs and can go from
there," he says.
AGREXO also helps member com-
panies who are hosting an in -coming
trade mission. They may arrange for
transportation and often draft an
itinerary for the guests. Stampher ar-
ranges meetings with other member
companies which have products in
which the delegation may be in-
terested. In some cases AGREXO
works out other details such as ar-
ranging for a translator. Stampher
says that language is really not a very
big barrier. "As long as they can read
numbers and dollar signs, everything
is fine," he quips.
AGREXO plays a key role in fin-
ding markets for member companies.
It attends trade fairs, has regular con-
tact with embassy offices, and seeks
out foreign buyers. Stampher
acknowledges that there is plenty of
competition for export markets to-
day. He also recognizes that there are
many countries who just don't have
the money to purchase what they re-
quire. To help alleviate these dif-
ficulties, AGREXO works closely
with the World Bank, the African
Development Bank, the Asian
Development Bank, the Inter -
American Development Bank, and
the Canadian International Develop-
ment Agency, as well as with other
official agencies and offices.
Another service AGREXO pro-
vides for its member companies is the
publishing of a comprehensive
catalogue describing the products and
services of member firms. Close to
1,000 copies of the coloured glossy
catalogue are scheduled to be printed
in January, says Stampher. "Foreign
buyers will have a wide variety of in-
formation and product choice with-
out looking all over," he says.
Most Canadian exports to date
have been to China, the United
States, Jamaica, Central America,
the Middle East, and Africa. Delega-
tions at the Royal Winter Fair, Stam-
pher says, were interested in livestock
export. He estimates that there were
100 cattle breeders from Central and
South America at the fair. Stampher
expects that farm equipment may be
one of the top export items from the
organization in the future.
Exporting is a complex business,
and small companies in particular
could use guidance, says Stampher.
AGREXO may be just the helping
hand a company needs to take the
plunge into the export market.
