a close one
The Lucknow Peewees squeaked
by Ripley by a score of 15 to 14 on
Aug. 14 on their home diamond.
Leading by a score of 15 to 8,
going into the seventh inning,
Ripley came alive by scoring six
runs before the final out was
recorded.
Pitching staff of Justin Brown,
Mark Stanley and Paul Turner
allowed 14 runs, on four walks, 15
hits and struck out three.
Ripley's offence was led by Kent
Little who collected two triples, one
double and two singles, scoring four
runs.
Leading Lucknow's offence was
Mark Stanley, who hit two doubles,
Jonathon MacKinnon, a triple.
Ripley pitching gave up nine
walks, 10 hits and struck out three.
Next home game Wednesday,
August 18th at 7:00 p.m. when the
Kincardine Mosquito's (age 10 -
11) visit.
The team's schedule has been
completed and the team is gearing.
up for the WOBA consolation tour-
nament on Aug. 21/22 in Listowel.
Swim team
improves at
recent meet
The. Lucknow swim team
travelled to Exeter on Aug. 14 to
compete in the fourth meet of the
summer.
Nine members and two coaches
swam hard, which again resulted in
personal bests and good team stan-
. dings. Improvement from meet to
meet is really boosting the team's
confidence and getting them ready
for the finals in Mitchell next Satur-
day:

The Whitechurch Womens'
Institute' held their Aug: 8 meeting
in the hall. This was the agriculture
and Canadian Industries meeting
with Norma Rintoul, and Agnes
Farrier as conveners and hostesses.
President Marjorie Wall wel-
comed everyone and following
opening exercises she read a poem
called "Seeds".
Rolicall was name a product
manufactured in Bruce County.
Mrs. Rintoul introduced the
speaker Christine. Goodhue of
Ripley the Bruce County dairy
princess...She_had_ nrtade _trvo__plates:._._.
of vegetables and fruit with dips
and demonstrated making the dips.
Questions from the ladies made an
interesting talk.
She was thanked and presented
with an envelope by Mrs. Farrier on
behalf of the institute.
Lunch committee was Jean Ross,
Catherine Wilson, and Cathy Lub-
bers. Jean and Helen served the
lunch along with the trays and dips
prepared by Christine.
Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer
spent. last weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh McMillan of Sombra.
Hazel Purdon of Strathroy accom-
panied them.
Janis Davis, Mark, and Scott of
Lasalle visited a few days with her
mother, Agnes Farrier last week.
Agnes Harrow of Atwood visited
last week with Cliff and Hazel
Laidlaw.
Annie Laidlaw of Pinecrest, in
Lucknow, spent Thursday with the
Laidlaws.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Steightholm
visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Dalton Noels and family of
Crediton to celebrate a grandson's
birthday.

Slo itch race for first ..lace tightens
The Lucknow Crystalizers, by
virtue of their early season win over
• the Lucknow Kinsmen, continue to
hold down first place in the local
slo pitch league. The Lanesville
Lords recently beat the Crystalizers
by a three run margin to hand them
their second loss of the season and
bring their record to. 13 wins and 2
losses. The Kinsmen team, riding a
nine game winning steak, has an
identical record. Lanesville . with
four wins and one loss in the last

in the air as the Kinsmen team still
has to play the Crystalizers and
'Lanesville Lords one time each in
their last three games.
The Lucknow Six Shooters have
pulled themselves up to fourth place
with a 4 and 2 record since. the*last
report. Their winning percentage of
.500 is identical to Port Albert's,
although Port Albert has played two
less games and went 3 and 1 in the
last month.

Six Shooters were also involved in
another game of note going '11
innings against Port Albert before
coming out on the short end of the
score. Lanesville recently beat the
Crystalizers to even their season
series at 1 and .1.
The teams are competing in an 18
game schedule with two more
weeks remaining. The top five
teams will play a round robin series
for the A Championship while the
bottom five teams will play the
same to determine the B Champion.
The Rapid . City Rangers have
slipped from fourth to sixth place
by virtue of their 1 and 3 record of
late. Likewise Holyrood Trojans
have slipped from fifth place to
seventh place in the standings.
Belfast, Kinloss and the Lucknow
Black Angels round out the ten
team league.
The Black Angels seem to be
getting their season turned around
with two recent wins, one of which
was against the Lucknow Six
Shooters, who just prior to that had
.There is currently a log jam for the
fourth and fifth position& with four
teams vying to go into the A. round
in -addition to the top three existing
teams.

team for winning the BB Division.
