The Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-07-28, Page 2Nage 2 - Lueknow Sentinel, Wednesday, .July 28, 1993 Busy holiday weekend New York champion is to attend Fiddlers Jamboree What started out as an idea over a kitchen table in Point Clark has grown in leaps and bounds over five years. The 5th Annual Fiddlers Jam- boree, sponsored by the Old Tyme Music Association, is all set to go on Saturday evening, July 31, and Sunday afternoon, August 1, at the Lucknow Arena. Over 800 people attended last year's event which featured over 60 musicians. This year, organizers are expecting the same response if not better. "This reunion attracts fiddlers and lovers of music from all over," said organizer Bev Hanson. "We're expecting the 1955 New York State fiddle champion, Leon Boyer, to be here. "The fiddlers are saying this is. 'not only the biggest fiddler reunion • in Ontario, but also the best," she said. There .will be a Saturday night, informal gathering of fiddlers and guitarists this year at 8 p.m. Fid- dlers will also have the chance to fiddle away on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The organizers try to make this a real community event. Camping, meals, and parking are provided for visitors and door prizes have been donated' by the Lucknow and area businesses. The Lucknow Boy Scouts are also involved in the setting up and taking down of the stage and chairs. Proceeds from the event go to community projects. Lip sync contest promises to be fun Fun. Fun. Jamboree experiences The Lucknow Sentinel received post cards from members of the 1st Lucknow Scouts and .Scouter Dale Lougheed last week. Even'though the scouts returned home on July 19, the Sentinel wanted to share the scouts thoughts and feelings when they were out west. After four great touring days on the way to the Canadian Jamboree in Alberta, Lougheed wrote that they had finally arrived. He also said there are lots of activities for the "15,000 wet, soggy campers". His last words on the post card were: "We want to take a mountain home to Lucknow". The scouts sent their thanks, on a post card of Lake Louise sur- rounded by mountains, to everyone who helped them make the trip. They also said: ' - we' went to the Columbian ice fields - it has been raining. all week ' - there was snow in Jasper one morning - we went rock climbing in Banff - we went to the Sulphur Mountain hot springs for a swim in Banff - we was a grizzly bear near Banff - this is the best scenery on earth - there is much scenery in Kananaskis'because we're in the foothills - we went on a 5 'km. hike at Lake Louise there are around 12,000 or 13,000 scouts/venturers here - really low temperatures so far' - we have a twin camp with Newfoundland - it is a one mile hike to our Kananaskis camp site - there are lots of elk and other wildlife - we're having a/great time despite the dampness g P P
