The Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-07-07, Page 15Jean Hughes 1892 - 1993 A wets -known and much .,toyed Lucknow lady, Janet (Jean) Isobel Hughes, died on .lune 29, 1993 in her 101st year, Formerly of Kinloss Township, Mrs. Hughes was a resident at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home at the time of her death. A daughter of the late William C. and Isobel (MacKenzie) Webb, she was born in West Wawanosh Township on Oct. 17, 1892, and was the last surviving member of her family. She was a graduate nurse from Victoria Hospital, Lon- don (1917). Many courageous tales can be told as this lady cared for the sick for two years at High River, Alberta and later in Kinloss Township, Bruce County. Mrs. Hughes was a life member of both the South Kinloss Women's Missionary Society (1957) and the Kairshea Women's Institute. She and her husband, the late Allister Hughes, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1972. They retired from their Kinloss Township farm in 1973, and took up residence in Wingham and later at the Sepoy Apartments in Luck - now. Mrs. Hughes will be sadly missed by a niece Dorothy Coulter, and two nephews Russell Webb and Bill Webb, all of British Columbia, and her many close friends. She was predeceased by her hus- band, a sister Margaret, and three brothers, Kenzie, Jack and Cameron. Rev. Albert Cook officiated at the funeral on July 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home. Organist was Mar- garet Hamilton. Interment South Kinloss Cemetery. Clara M. Crowston 1906 - 1993 Clara Myrtle Crowston, of Luck - now, died at Wingham and District Hospital, on July 1, 1993, in her 87th year. She was a member of the Lucknow Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian WMS. Mrs. Crowston was bom on Oc- tober 5, 1906 in Kinloss Township. She was a daughter of the late Angus and Jane (Little) MacGil- livary. She married John Crowston on April 18, 1928. Mrs. Crowston is survived by her children Marlow Crowston, Kincar- dine; Earl (Bud) and Mona Crowston, B.C.; Clarence and Jean Crowston, Chatham; Lois and Clayton Alton, R.R. 7, Lucknow; Myrtle and Orland Irwin, R.R. 1; Lucknow, as well as 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her hus- band John; a daughter, Cecelia Laidlaw; a sister, Lola Marshall, and two brothers Stewart MacGil- livary and Jim MacGillivary. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. Henderson of the Lucknow Presbyterian Church at 1:30 on July 3, at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home. Organist was Anne Pritch d ar . Grove residents enjoy Canada Day activities Summer is here! Farrish 1918 -1993 William Alexander Farrish, of Huronlea Nursing Home, Brussels, and formerly of Toronto and Luck - now, died at the Wingham and District Hospital, on July 3,1993, in his 75th year. He was retired clerk. Mr. Farrish was a son of the late David and Katherine Farrish, and was born on -Dec. 13, 1918 in Semans, Saksatchewan. He is survived by three sisters, Margaret Dosdall, Saskatchewan; Jean Yaeger, Simcoe, and June Matheson, Calgary, Alberta, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Farrish was predeceased by his parents, a brother David, and a sister Lillian MacMaster. Rev. V. Wilkie officiated at the funeral on July 5 at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home. Interment Kintail Cemetery. William A. Hunter 1914 - 1993 William Alexander (Sandy) Hunter, of Windsor, died at his home on June 22, 1993, in his 80th year. He was a member of the Trinity United Church. Mr. Hunter served with the Royal Canadian Navy for five years. He was a member of the . Naval Veterans Association, The Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Board of Stewards. Born in Bruce County on Jan. 29, 1914, Sandy was a son of the late Hugh and Ethel Hunter, of Tiver- ton: Mr.; Hunter is survived by his daughter Joyce and her husband, James Boshis, of Burlington, a step- son Dennis Maguire of Thunder Bay, and one grandson Chris • of Burlington. He is also survived by three sisters Ruby and Julie of Thornhill, and Velma Morningstar of Luck - now, 10 nephews and one niece. Mr. Hunter was predeceased by his wife, the former Margott Haness of Exeter, and two brothers Clarence and J.D. Hunter. The funeral was conducted at the Windsor Chappell Funeral Home, by Rev.
